Bear Hunt Story

I was invited to hunt bear in Ontario Canada by a friend from Missouri.

I had seen this bear the first hunt but he had came in right at dark and I decided not to risk a shot. We had trail cam pics from that spot and after reviewing the pictures, we decided if I saw him again I should definitely shoot! We only hunt evenings so I went back to the same spot the second evening. Around 8:30 I had 3 cubs come to the bait and feed alone. About half an hour later a sow came down the trail but wouldn’t come to the bait. She would circle in and out real nervous. I figured the big boar was ruling this bait. About 9:15pm I see another bear coming in. It was the big boar! The sow charged him and the cubs ran up trees. The boar wasn’t going to let the sow keep him from his dinner. He charged in and went straight to the bait barrel. With light fading fast, I didn’t waste any time getting him in frame on my video camera and readying myself for a shot. He pulled a donut from the barrel and turned broadside. I drew my Palmer Longbow and watched the Nocturnal nock zip through him sticking into the ground on the far side. He ran about 40 yards and I could hear him struggling to breathe. Double Lunged him! It was a great hunt with good friends. I tagged out on the second evening then fished every day. The fishing was amazing!!!! Palmer Longbow 47#@26” 64” amo Magnus Classic Single Bevel 175gr Head. 100gr brass insert. 554gr total arrow weight

Congrats on the bear and thanx for the hunt story. Great idea including your rig rundown as well. Just curious as to where you hunted in Ontario, we have way too many bears here now. Glad “they” brought back the spring bear hunt, again, thanx for taking care of that bore. Lloyd

Thanks Riverwolf, Yes they are fighters! I caught and released over 100 of them. The great fishing was worth the drive up alone. I did catch some pike and a walleye but the small mouths are what I enjoyed the most.

Sparky I had a great hunt last year, shot a color phase bear and caught lots of fish! The border is closed so I wasn’t able to go this spring. Hopefully it will be open for next spring. Here’s some pictures and I did video that hunt as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c634_c_L-eQ&feature=share

Thanks Everyone!
