I was thinking about going to Ohio this year to bowhunt white-tails. Checking to see if you all hunt there. I would be hunting public land or maybe if a could fine a reasonable outfitter for Traditional style hunting.
Any of your experiences or information would be helpful. Thank you in advance for your help. I am getting info off their website and other avenues as well.

They had a rule change this year. The statewide limit is still 6 and the county limits are the same except 1. But theres a limit of 1 doe per year on public land starting this year. Also after dec 2 no does can be shot on public lands.

We got good bucks on most public lands. Go to odnr's website and get a free permit that covers all the lands they don't own but manage. They also have a list of those areas and maps.

I got this guys with Widerack Outfitters in southern Ohio. During the week there were 6 hunters in camp and we collectively saw over 300 deer.
Good Luck

Lots of public land. The Wayne isn't the best choice. It's too chopped up. Interspersed with too much private land.
Look at Shawnee State Forest, Tar Hollow, Scioto Trail and Pike Lake State Park for starters. Shawnee is very large, rough, and quite a good deer population.

Aep lands near Cochocton and the Muskingum watershed ore 2 greta plaes for deer hunting during the bow season. Our populations not that bad. We are the 3rd highest of the midwestern states with 18.4 deer per square mile, almost double some of the other top trophy states. We were at 750k and the accident numbers went so high they started dropping it. The hunters want the 750k, but the farmers want 250k. At the game hearings odnr said they got everyone pissed so they must be doing their jobs, lol. We're at 450k and planning on the only change being less does coming off public lands so they can raise the population on them without effecting private property. Last year crossbow kills were up 7 percent to the highest numbers they've had. Vertical bow kills were down 3 percent. between the 2 they killed 82k+. The 3 year average archery season kill is also 82k+ so we're not doing bad at all.

Licking county had the highest bow kill and the highest crossbow kill last 2 years. Maybe the huge leases are hurting you guys. I'm near Canton now and can't go anywhere without seeing deer at dusk. I don't doubt ur word bud but something's going on. My bet is leases. I lost all my prime spots in licking to leases. With the foodplots and feed stations deer got no reason to leave. It's becoming a rich man's sport.
