Picked up a Kim Sha Mattawoman III the other day 50#@28". It had a very skinny string on it. I started tuning some new arrows, but knock fit was so loose i had an arrow come off the string on release. Switched to a 14 strand B50. 500 spine arrows cut to 30",200 gr up front are too stiff with B50 string. I can either get 600 spine arrows or make a "fast flight" string that is thicker. Are fast flight strings generally that thin? Any thoughts?

Yes

I dont usally roll FF strings so i cant give you a strand count for your draw weight Personally i just tie a double serving

Just make the serving to fit. I have several different sizes and one or the other usually does the trick. You can add a serving over the top as Mountain Man suggested,in just the area where the arrow goes. You can also lay a wrap or two of plumbers/teflon tape on the string and serve over it. I always take a 1/2 dozen or so wraps with the serving then try the nock on it. Just go up or down a little as needed. Hope that helps. >>>----> Ken

Mine is the lazy method, works ok though. Build your serving up with dental floss. Wrap it until your nocks fit like you like them, Tie it off and hit it with a lighter- problem solved.

More to your question though-no, all FF strings aren't super skinny- and if you use a thicker one, it won't tune like the skinnier one did. Not better or worse, just different.

Not at the serving they aren't.

When properly built, a fast flight, and/or skinny fast flight string will have the same serving size, and nock fit as any other string. If not . . .

Thanks guys. I use b50 on everything else, so will probably just spine arrows with that material.

I agree wrap existing skinny string until nock fits properly

I'd also build that serving up before buying shafts...dental floss is probably in your cabinet now so it's pretty much a free fix to your issue instead of spending money! Report back and let us know

I will try the reserving fix. If that works I,ll be able to shoot the same arrows out of the 3 bows I most often shoot and cut down on expense on arrows. I did add some floss before changing the string. Still seemed a touch on the loose side. Thanks again. Ill report back the results.

All my strings are 10 strand strings. I use ff and b55. this is what works for me.A double serving of b55 and then crazy glue over whole serving.Fits the nocks that i shoot and wears well.

Heres how it all worked out. Went to a friend who had D97. Made a 12 strand string. Took double serving to get knock fit right. Arrows flew well. Bare shaft hitting with fletched out to 20 yds. Next tried a 14 strand with single .019 serviing. Knock fit perfect, and good arrow flight too. Im glad you all recommended playing with strings insread of new arrows. Cheaper and less stuff to remember. Thanks again.

tddh -

They don't have to be. My "FF" strings have the same diameter as my B-50 string for the same weight bows. Makes life easier. For example a 14 strand D97 = a 12 strand B-50 and a 16 strand D97 = a 14 strand B-50.

And btw - you'll never see a skinny string on an Olympic bow.

Viper out.

Try a 250 grain point if you have one. My Hill bows, both [email protected], 14 strand B55 string shoot a 30” 500 spine arrow with a 250 grain point very well.

I use plumber's teflon tape, instead of dental floss. Much more quick to serve than using floss, even if multiple layers are needed AND then I use .026 or .30 center serving. Ta Da! I find the power boost is +5% depending on how good was the old string, and the bow is more quiet too.
