I thought a few fellows on this forum might find these photos interesting.

Top Photo - Racine, WI, Spring 1937. Roy Case with his young son Quentin with a pair of bows made by Roy. These bows represent his attempt to create reproductions of Turkish bows as made and used during the time of the Ottoman Empire. Each was made with sinew, wood (probably maple), animal glue, and Asiatic water buffalo horn. It is interesting to note Roy ordered and received the buffalo horn about 1935-36 from a supplier in Turkey, half a world away.

Middle Photo - The same two bows today. Note how the longer of the two has "curled" (dried???) quite a bit more in response to the years.

Bottom Photo - A better view of the handle sections of the two bows.

(Bottom two photos taken 4-28-18)

Now that is pretty cool.

Ol' Roy was a do it all kind of guy wasn't he?

The more I learn about Roy Case the more impressed I am. He was: first bowhunter to take a whitetail in modern era of archery in WI (12-6-30), the founder of the WI Bowhunters Assoc., magazine columnist, archery tackle manufacturer, broadhead designer and manufacturer, the first acknowledged and recognized broadhead collector, member of the archery Hall Of Fame, member of the WI Bowhunting Hall Of Fame, boat builder, duck decoy designer and creator, author of numerous archery & bowhunting related articles, descendant of J.I. Case & heir to the J.I. Case Threshing Machine Company (i.e., this became "Case tractor"), former WI archery chanpion, former WI flight champion, etc., etc.,...if I were to go through my records I could probably locate again as many titles, labels, and accolades the man earned throughout his lifetime. I had the pleasure of meeting him the first time in 1973 and then until about 1983-4 I visited with him at his home on many occasions. Roy passed away at the age of 98 in 1986. It was an honor to have known him.
