Oh yeah that's a good solid character knot. This is gonna be the riser. Limbs are gonna be maple with maybe a Osage core, topped with green glass back and belly. It's gonna be a great shooter and looker. JF

I love working Bacote. That sure will be an interesting piece. I just cut a piece of walnut to go in a riser that most people wouldn’t use it for that, I will put a beam in the bow to alleviate the stress. Looking forward to see how you deal with that knot.

From: bodymanbowyer

This knot, being in Bacote. I have no worries with it. It doesn't even go through to the other side. I'm hoping that it is a little bit open when I get the riser shaped. So I can fill it with some turquoise powder :-) JF

From: Barber
Date: 26-May-18

That bow will be at home in the woods. There are lots of deer and other game it will be after.

From: Dry Bones
Date: 26-May-18

Scott, I normally agree with you, or at least mostly agree with you. HOWEVER, you can't cover up something as nice as Jeff's riser. Maybe you have a problem with wood... :D If the other bow is waiting on a grandchild, then I have no further questions. Barber, whenever you get that stick you have to get a little blood on it, and show it off.

And Scott, BTW- We had two hogs in the field directly behind my house last night (not far from the archery lane). We have never had them here before, but that only means I don't even have to get in my truck to find one.

From: Dry Bones

No sir, 2 hogs are not a sounder but in a couple months they will be the cause of a sounder.

-Bones

From: Barber
Date: 27-May-18

Dry Bones, It will definitely get some blood on it before the year is out :). I have only shot a time or two in the last couple of months because of some shoulder problems. Needing a bow of lighter draw weight to really began shooting again. Shoulder should be back to normal again says doc but will be a while. So Jeff is taking care of me on this build. I use to keep a lower poundage bow around and for some reason a couple years ago I decided if it wasn’t my hunting weight of 50- 65lb I thought I didn’t need it. I have killed a few deer with the 40lb bow I use to own. This bow Jeff is building me will be my main bow . It is around 42lb at my draw. Still have some heavier bows around 50lb if ever need them but have sold everything else I have over 50. Keeping bows 40-50lb. No need in anything more. Hopefully shoulder will last longer. Sometimes our profession is rough on our joints. He wanted the other bow back for his grandson. It is one awesome bow ! I killed 2 deer and a coyote with it .

Barber I have yet to bag a yote with the longbow, but it's darn sure on the short list. Congrats to you and hope the shoulder really heals up like it is supposed to. I currently have a 68#'er that I think should go to a new home. I shoot it just fine, but IF I get carried away with shot count then my collar bone feels it the next day. Old woulds seem to never fully go away.

Dry bones, I know about old injury. That’s part of my shoulder problems. I did karate and mixed martial arts for about 20 years. Some things come back to bite you later in life . Lol

I've had big hammers in my paws/sausages and tend to hit the wrong nail time and again. Also have a tendency to get my paws caught between a rock and a hard place...literally. John

By the way great craftsmanship...as always Jeff.

Can we see a picture of that wood quiver hanging behind you? did you make it? Thanks John

I didn't make the quiver. I got it from Ron LeClare. I think someone told me that Skinny Davis made it. It is a work of art. JF

I've never weighed it. It's not heavy. I loved using it. JF

That thing IS a work of art!

Does that alternate as a bow quiver or is the curve to fit around you side?

Back to the top, thanks Jeff for the build-a-long AGAIN. :-D Obviously I am bored and hoped to add a little more fun to the list.
