After killing the squirrel, I used my Granddaddy's old knife he gave me right before he passed away to clean it, and get it ready for the frying pan.

Today I was enjoying some "feels", and nostalgia while cleaning the old knife up, and sharpening it.

Long before giving it to me, he had broken the long blade out of it, and had removed the piece left inside. Said he was gonna replace it, but never did for whatever reason.

While cleaning & sharpening it today, I thought to myself how COOL it would be to finish the job of replacing the blade, that he had started over 50 years ago.

So I Did. 8^)

I didn't think it fitting to get a new blade. Wanted to keep it looking old, and worn out, so I popped the blade out of an old worn out Kissing Cranes German folder, ground it to fit the Camillus, and installed it.

I think Pap would be proud. 8^)

More to the story:

I was real young (maybe 6) when he got the knife, and I was about 8 when the blade got broke out of it.

Pap, my Uncle Bill Hollis, and me went fishing that day. We dug a few worms up in Pap's worm bed, but didn't get near enough, so we went down the road to Ole Gib Gate's place, and bout a can of worms from him.

Uncle Bill was gonna put the worms we had dug up into the can with the worms we bought from Gib. It was a 1 gallon paint can, complete with a handle, and lid with holes poked in it.

Uncle Bill said - "Willie Lee (that's what he called Granddaddy), let's see your knife so I can open this can."

Pap pitched him the knife, and Uncle Bill proceeded to snap the blade off while prying on the lid.

Pap's only reaction was, he said - "Oh Mercy Bill" 8^)

I remember it like it was yesterday.

All in a days' work for Rick.

1. Dots a squirrel's eye at 40 yards.

2. Consumes said squirrel in a meal fit for a King.

3. Repairs a family heirloom.

Life is good!
