I am a wood arrow guy but am making up some matched carbons for my granddaughter to shoot. She is not at the selfbow level yet so I am making it easier for her with a recurve.

I thought I had some fletchtite but it appears I only have Duco and superglue on hand. Before I drive to town for some other glue I thought I would ask if Duco works on carbon, what say you?

I did a search but couldn't find a direct answer, most were about dipped and crested arrows, arrow wraps or wood arrows.

I didn't have any luck with Duco on carbons and ended up using a very thin strip of Gorilla glue 'cause that's what I had laying around, it worked fine. I'm sure guys that use carbons regularly will have a better suggestion. I'm thinking fletch tite would work fine.

I've only used NVP on carbons and Duco on woodies so I can't say. I sand mine lightly and clean with acetone.

I spray my caps and top with water base poly and have only used duco. Gorilla thick for wraps.

On bare carbon I only have had luck with NPV glue from Saunders. I read where others have success with the Gorilla glue with the blue cap. I be I believe there’s a recent thread with pictures here.

My experience is the same as Shawn's. Been making up carbon shafts with and without a crown dip since 2005. Super glue on the bare shaft and Duco on the painted.

Duco works OK if you prep the shaft first.

I use Duco on carbons with no problem. Prep first. I wait about 12 minutes a feather. Do one Eric and see how it goes.

I’ve used fletchtite on bare shafts with no problems.

I use Duco on GT Trads but lightly sand the fake woodgrain wrap with 220 grit sandpaper to scuff it. Fletching is still applied to one that went thru a doe Dec 30th. No issues with those carbons.

I did a test on a raw shaft no prep, the feather stuck but could be pulled off with moderate force. I am trying a sanded shaff cleaned with acetone at the present. I just put the piece of broken shaft in my Bitz.

My mail lady stood the box of shafts up against my garage door, I hit my garage door opener and was looking up to make sure my car would clear and never saw the package. I didn't know it was there until I felt the bump as I drove over it.

Only one of the shafts was broken, the rest were undamaged, this is why I have a broken shaft to use for testing.

In this day and age I can’t see why anyone would want to Fletch over bare shafts. Wraps are cheap, not stinky, and don’t need special removers to get the shaft clean agian for refletching. Only prep on carbons I do is a lite wipe off with Acetone or DNA. Can’t see the sanding or special preps either. On aluminum I wash them with Comet cleaner and hot water. If your going to do all sanding and painting might as well do wood shafts!

Think of it this way M60, I bought 8 shafts, broke two by driving over the box, ended up with 6 and will probably never buy another carbon shaft in my life time, I am an osage selfbow, wood arrow guy.

The recurve and arrows are for my granddaughter who comes to visit once a year from Virginia for a few days. No need to invest in any fancy wraps for this simple set-up, bare shafts are just fine.

Speaking of bare shafts, these are gold tip 700s, they bare shaft perfectly full length with a 125gr point out of 30# target recurve.

On my second experiment I scrubbed the fletching area with a burgundy scotch bright pad, cleaned the area with acetone and glued on a test feather with duco. It stuck so tight I couldn't knock it off with a hammer, success.
