getting ready to purchase some miss purrfects and wondering what your most successful set-ups have been. two hens? hen and tom/jake? lone hen? I will only be getting two as I anticipate covering a lot of ground and don't wanna carry more than whats necessary . thanks .

I had good luck with a pocket hen and jake. Sometimes I just carry the hen if I"m moving around a ton--rollit up and throw it in my cargo pocket...

I have had good luck with two hens. Some times a hen and Jake. Are you using Trad gear?

It’s not luck it depends on your set up. Say you have a Gobbler roosted. One simple hen in sight of him oughta have you out right quick. Course there’s lots of things can/do change. Say you have a dominant bird who likes throwing his weight around, a Jake or Gobbler w no hen or w a hen might be enough. Say a bunch of Jakes have ganged up on that Gobbler again one or two hens. That Jake might shy him away. Jealous hens may lead him away from hens too. We can do this all day, there’s so many variables. Luck is for something you have zero control over. Deciding which dekes is all you. Analyze your situation than decide. You best bet bear in mind is not using decoys to attract. Be already in front of where he’s going than put one single deke down for him to look at while you get ready to shoot. Now your decoy choice ugh!! get DSD, had Montana decoys spook em. Never once DSD. Not saying they work every time, none do. They just look like a bird

white falcon , that's a nice bunch of birds! yes I think I will be using a 70s model damon howett hi-speed hunter, cedar shafts with woodsman bhs. ive had these birds make a fool of me for a couple years in a row but that's how it goes when youre learning the ropes. at least a recurve is lighter to carry than a scatter gun!

DSDs are not collapsable. Pretty easy to carry though, and very realistic. I use a jake, or a hen, or a jake and a hen, depending on when in the season I'm hunting. Single jake works more than anything most of the time.

As cheap as the pocket hens are, I've never Had an issue...and if you keep the stake grometa clean, they actual get a litype movement in the wind. I have so other primos not portables and the pocket hens alway go with me and have performed as well or better...

Remember, they are always closer than you think! Less calling is better. It might take 30 min. for an old Gobbler to come in if he isn't real excited.

White Falcon is right on. Don't over call or too loud. When I first get in a set and they are on the roost I very softly let them know where I am then shut up till they are down. Then call enough to get an answer, then only what it takes to get them in.

Check out the wind drifter decoys, great movement, light and relatively cheap.

I had a beat up jake decoy that worked great it looked so pathetic I think the bigger toms thought it would be an easy butt to kick. Killed lots of them with it. It finally wouldn’t even stay on the stake so I had to put him down. Lol.

I use a "stuffer" hen. Mounted hen fools them every time. Kid you not.
