We cant go back in time, but with great vintage photos the mind can at least attempt to take us there. Heres a pic of a simpler time, simple gear, very basic canvas camp, cooking over a fire and smiling faces....what might they have been discussing? We may never know, but what we see as roughing it sure wasnt impeding on the joy of the hunt and the fellowship of hunting camp.

I prefer to think it wasn't posed, but based on the wilderness camps I've shared, even if it was posed it still accurately portrays the joy of camp life.

Great photo. No one was looking at the camera, looks like a candid shot to me. Probably one of only a few photos taken that trip. Unlike today and the endless amount of selfies taken.

One of those bows looks like an old K4? Not sure. Both look like static tips. But I say both look like they're sitting way too close to that fire, lol! Looks like a grande ole' time though.

Very cool photo. Boy the woods in the back drop sure looks thick!
Is that #50 on the quiver or on the canvas? They are at a local camp site numbered 50 :)

Lots of people look at the "good old days"....as gone.
If they are its your own fault. One of my greatest comforts and strengths are simply this.....
what "you" say, doesn't have to control what "I" say.
What "you" do doesn't have to effect what "I" do.
The way "you" live does not have to effect the way "I " live.
The way "you" believe or don't believe, will NEVER effect what "I" believe.
I know we are basically talking about bowhunting here. No reason you cannot still hunt and camp like that.
And certainly no reason you have to follow the course of this world, or its thinking....

I've been at such gatherings/campfires, and the talk will range from actually hunting stuff to one of the girls in the office. Don't think you can figure it out, but you can take it for what it's worth with the facial expressions. The smiles tell a story itself of a happy time in spite of having to please the camera man. That's a campfire that you know is going to be the catalyst for some pranks over the next few days.

By the way, Kickapoo Joy Juice is a Lil' Abner drink. I remember that from the comics in the Sunday newspaper when I was a kid in the 50's.

Probably laughing about what an idiot the president is and how those new "vegetarians" don't know what they're talking about. And those primitive hunters just cant hit the side of a barn and "how bout those 20's hah? They were really roaring!" "What gets better penetration, 2 or 3 blade? What's the best poundage for deer?" Yada yada.

Great photo, The hunting industry has perverted the sport with all the high tech got to have it gear , Half naked women and what’s an acceptable “trophy”
I started hunting at a young age and still Love it today. I am thankful to have been guided by Men not much different than in the photo above but it saddens me that some aspects of the sport are gone , others are declining quickly and they will never return but so are many things in the world.

Whatever it was I bet it wasn't, my way of aiming is better than yours! Or you will never compete at a 3D tournament if you snap shoot, or man look at the rack on that sucker.

Real bow and arrow hunters, hunting the way the season was designed. Glad I still enjoy hunting with self bows and cedar arrows, some 70 years or so later than the era of this picture. There was never a reason for me to change, been hunting in similar fashion since 1965.

I hunted out of camps like that in the early '60's three of us crammed into a floorless wedge tent. We rigged a Coleman lantern with a piece of stovepipe in place of the glass to get some heat in the tent.
Sitting around the fire with the car door open and the radio tuned to The Grand Old Opry..... "every time I go to town someone kicks...... 8^)
