Just wanted to take a moment and share with the wall another step I have finally figured out. I have been shooting longbows and recurves for a few years now, and I realize I have a long ways to go, but definitely making steps in the right direction. There are LOTS of good ways to shoot "traditional" bows and lots of "aiming tactics" that can be efficient in the woods as well. My most recent hurdle- Actual Back Tension. I THOUGHT I had been using my back, and I was all to aware I have been able to fudge that area from my compound shooting as I was always able to draw off my arms and then the let-off made it possible to hold there. Well friends you can do the same with longbows and recurves. I have even learned some consistent consistency on the range and in the woods. but apparently was still all in the arm. All that long a-doo to say this, and I do not encourage anyone to do the same, but it worked for me. I recently traded into a heavier longbow that scaled 65 @ my 27" draw. The importance of that was I could only shoot a few arrows the way I have been shooting before my arms really felt fatigued. Strange that the forearm gave up first?? Then the AH HA!! I FINALLY rotated my shoulder around and dropped my elbow back suddenly the new heavy bow kinda "lightened up" I could have a brief rest at full draw, study my sight picture and release. I then grabbed my favorite bow and you know it felt surprisingly easy at full draw. It's 51 @ 27" and I had been feeling a lot of tug in the back draw. NOT NOW. Sorry for the long read, and thanks for those who stuck through it. Excited to get into a full anchor with the heavier bow and not be struggling, and wanted to share with a crew that has helped me learn so much so quickly. To add to this I have a friend who shoots an 80# recurve, and have shot it some with decent accuracy, but only for a few shots. He has encouraged me to get a heavier bow and find out why I only had a few good shots. I GOT IT >>---> As a side affect I also gained 1/2" in draw.

Scott, always a way to make me understand exactly what you mean. Got it, and will try it.

Dry, just a question and probably a point in your answer. Where do you think you'd be now if you started with a coach on day one?

Bowmania, IF there was an available coach in my area, and IF I would have went that route most likely I would be far ahead of where I am, but also in someone else's method. I have no issue with paying a coach to help but the BEST coach I ever had was a man who helped me learn how to ride Saddle Bronc horses. "There are a million ways to get it done, you have to find what works for you. Only few actual basics are necessary." The other side to that is I have no desire at all to ever shoot in competition. I get way to serious and loose the fun. I enjoy hunting and learning how to do that better.

Liquid tension, I know most suggest stay away from the over weight and being over-bowed. This just happen to show me my flaw. I do some blind bale, but the methodical continual shot is what instills in my mind. You don't have to go to blind bale shooting to slowly go through all the motions in a methodical mindset. Being intentional and deliberate from one shot to another will work. BUT you have to slow down to that point. I do appreciate the comments, and I am going to continue to learn, as the more I have learned the more I understand I don't know.
