In 2005 several of us attended a get together near Danville VA over a weekend, to build bows, shoot bows, eat, and sit around a campfire in fellowship of the bow. We never did another (that I am aware of). I now own 49 acres near Elkton VA (Harrisonburg) with enough land to host some primitive camping to include some room for camper trailers, and archery range, a clout shoot, and indoor bow building in the event of inclement weather. I have a 2 HP bandsaw and a limited cured stave pile, as well as plenty of pignut and some hop hornbean on my property, as well as a bunch of osage in nearby cow pastures (we would need to knock on doors first). I own two nice 3D targets, but if attendees could bring their own we have room for a 3D range of up 40 ish targets (if we had that many).

I am starting this post to gauge level of interest. This who have never dabbled could come and I could guide, even if just me. I was thinking late may/early June, but again am open to level of interest. We could eventually turn it into an OJAM/MOJAM level with enough interest. I am thinking friday is arrival, camp over, Saturday bow building and shooting, Sat evening pot luck then campfire, with another camp out, Sunday people hang and shoot in am if they want.

Please post with suggestions and level of interest

I could invite my buddy and expert flintknapper Dr E Dwight Bundy and have a knappers circle, we could have a string making session and string making station setup for folks to learn to "roll your own". A stave selection and chasing a ring session, a hands on "how to" select and cut your own whitewood tree into staves, a backed bow prep and glue session, A chrony setup to test your own, a clout shoot, a 3d course shoot, and a build your own area, a session on bare shafting and tuning your own. Depending on who is interested we could add sessions/working stations. Maybe other folks could bring some seasoned osage staves to sell or share ( My pile is not as large as I like right now, but could provide a doezen or so right now for sharing).

Great idea Mr. Schwister, that part of the country needs it. Very accommodating of you as well.

That's about 2-2.5 hours from me. I'd definitely be interested. I'd have to get some time off work since I usually work weekends.

Sounds like a great idea.

Going up and down I 81 for many years I always admired the beautiful countryside in your area. Such a great idea and gracious offer. That would be a great campfire to hang out at. TLM

when is good? i was thinking May.the weekend of the 12th is out. if we do memorial day we can have at least two full days and still have time for travel. Do not want to interfere with nearby shoots .
