Had some fun today shooting 20 arrows at 20 yards.

CD Archery WF19 riser with Hoyt carbon bamboo limbs. 45 lbs at my draw. Carbon Express Heritage 90's 412 grains.

If you want to try it post up your 20 arrows at 20 yards. Use a new piece of paper or cardboard, and see how you do.

I usually do something like this when I am tuning. Good way to set your centershot, and check consistency.

This bow is tuned pretty well. Just had the 1 flier today.

That's some good shooting, any warm up?

Yep, I advise my pupils to now and then shoot a careful session on a new paper target. Then read the target You often find an otherwise good group is centered an inch or three to the left or right. That is a better test of your tune than either bareshaft or paper tuning.

Vertical error is not poor tuning, it is your own error. - lbg

Amazing the accuracy you get with a small dot to aim at, out to 30y I can shoot groups to impress a Compound (I'm Stringwalking) but put a Field face on at it's rarely that tight, if only my eyes were good enough to see the X lol

Those are some nice groups. I'd be too embarrassed to let y'all see my 20 arrows at twenty yards.

Mine might get mistaken for someone patterning a shotgun!

Put a Indoor blue face in front of me and see those groups open right up lol

It's just back yard walkback 10 to 30 yards with Zero pressure :-)

Joe I'm with you and it would look more like a modified than an extra full....

Do 40 more arrows and you will have a 300 round. May as well get a blue indoor face. I always shoot better in the side yard than I do in competition. By the way, that is a nice group. If that is typical you should do well on an indoor round.

Did you happen to shoot just one arrow then go pull it or shoot the bunch of arrows?

When you have a pile of arrows to shoot at in a target it gives you a lot to shoot at for an aiming point the flo nocks also if you use them to aim at nock too.

Take the black spot off the aim point and aim for the middle of the cardboard. If you then put up another clean cardboard that will show you how well your shooting if you can center it with no aiming point spot.

To shoot multiple arrows when there's large aim spots doesn't show how well we can shoot really. Many will disagree just to disagree.

Think it through and see if that make any sense. Just being practical and not trying to take any wind from your sails.

I've done the same thing and shown arrows on top of each other and holes like this more than once also then I think about it whats the big deal I had plenty of aiming spots.

If you pull the arrow its a little harder to see the hole but the black dot makes it easier. Clean target would make it a lot harder to see to focus.

RymanCat you have a unique outlook to Archery :-)

Reminds me of the cartoon where the King shoots his arrows into a white wall and the servant is drawing circles around each arrow, because of course a King doesn't EVER miss. :-)

I always find something to aim at no matter what target I am shooting at. If I shot for the middle without a dot to start I would just aim at the first arrow hole for the following shots. I like to have an aiming point so everything is consistent. I usually shoot 1 arrow at a time, but sometimes I shoot 2 at a time. If I hit the dot with the first one I don't shoot another. If I don't hit the spot I will shoot 1 more. I don't like to ruin arrows, so I usually don't shoot more than 2.

I personally pay much more attention to those who show it (either before or after) talking about it.

It really does wind up being a "put up, or shut up" discussion if you want to have any credibility in said discussion.

No offense intended in that statement by the way. It's simple human nature.

And just for a little humor thrown in - "The Picture".

19 degrees with a little wind today. Much more consistent this time. No fliers, and I was able to hit the dot a few times.

20 at 20, hmm no way but it got me thinking. I am rehabbing my shoulder not shooting well. So I unstrung and racked the 45# bow I really want to be shooting and will shoot the Sage with 35# limbs for a while. I shot 10 arrows at 10 yards to see where I am really at, give myself a baseline to work with. Here are the results. I'm not happy with this but it is an honest assessment and a good time of year to really focus on my shooting.

Tried it with my backup bow, and had to adjust centershot during the 20 arrows. By the last arrow it was pretty close.

Pinwheel, that wheelbarrow looks to have a flat tire. Just saying...

From: RymanCat

Yeah isn't it nice to have that aiming point but when your shooting an animal we need to know just where to aim there's not many aiming points now is there.

Really don't think it has nothing to do with any archery outlook or circles kings drew around anything if it even happened at all? LOL

Seems like more fake news from others trying to spread liberals BS! NOW ISN'T IT.LOL

JUST SAYING giving you a perceptive on things what I found by loading arrows it can damage arrows too that sux especially when you have some purty ones.

Flat tire on the wheelbarrow LOL! Axis and Fallow deer as well as leopards have aiming spots on them.

I have tried to master the technique of visualizing or mentally placing a dot on a blank canvas. I can't do it. But I stare at deer in my yard and find a spot that I would shoot at, good training. I also have a blank burlap bag over a target to practice shooting at brown.

From: Pinwheel
Date: 19-Feb-18

I can almost always find a spot to shoot at (a hair out of place, a light or dark spot, etc), and if I can't I just visualize a spot.

From: Lowcountry

Looks like you are at it again Ryman. You don't like aper plate for an accuracy gauge. Now it almost sounds like you are discounting Pinwheels groups (which look damn good to me) because he shot at a dot.

What do you practice on? Do you only practice on animals? I mean, there HAS to be some kind of accuracy gauge, doesn't there? If 100 people shoot 20 arrows at a target 20 yards down range, SOMEBODY will have shot the best score. If the same person routinely is in the top percentage of shooters, wouldn't you say he is a pretty good shot. Or is it "fake news" because he shot at a dot and maybe doesn't have 82 dozen heads on the wall?

I could make the argument that heads on the wall only means the archer had more opportunity, more chances, more time, more money, etc.. For example, 82 dozen heads on the wall from guided hunts in high fences doesn't nessesarily make a Hunter a god shot.

Anyone else want to give it a try? It is fun and will tell you a lot about your tune and form.

I only got 15 yards. My major group was thighs just left of center-no aim point. Dropped 2 low of the tight group

Here's a ten shot group which I have a pic of because that's what I usually shoot vs. more arrows. Bow was a 52"50 #Kodiak Magnum using a single pin sight and my own STAR Release (more fun and quieter than fingers).

As a bowhunter, first shot is all that really counts for me, but ten or twenty arrows does help one get a feel for your level of consistency.

5 ring 4 ring, 3 ring etc. scoring: 20 arrows 90 or above = A; 80-89 = B; 70-79 = C (just my opinion).

Nice group.

Robert, I'll try to shoot and post it, but it probably won't be until Friday.

From: Ranman

Dang RymanCat, why do you have to respond so negatively to these post?? People are just having fun. I compliment them on there shooting ability. You need a different hobby. I’m pretty sure if they can put 20 arrows near the dot, they can take an animal. I wish you a good day. Randy

That's good shooting! You're definitely ready for hunting season!

If this wind will ever quit blowing Keeps moving me around and blowing my wood arrows off the shelf. To much work to move my target.

Here's my 20 at 20. Only 18 holes, but my broached arrow was touching the plate one time and 1/8" away from the plate the other ' which makes me think I need to keep an eye on the broadhead arrow in the future.

It is easier with the 2" dot to focus on. I need to find a way to focus on a blank target face.

Here is 10 at 25. The first 3 or 4 were gold, but then I started opening up. I was warmed up good by this point. I now feel confident on a deer at 25 yards - if he gives me 30 warm up shots. Lol

Nice target setup - except for the snow. I saw that stuff coming down from NW Canada. We' might get some rain out of it next week if it holds up. We have record breaking temps of 80+ today and tomorrow.
