Found this log someone cut by a local fishing hole. Looks like the tree broke and someone cut it to get it out of the way. I found it last spring ('17) and didn't think much of it. noticed was still laying there, thought I'd try and get something out of it.

it is maybe 4" diameter. I'll post some pictures, see what you all think. never built a bow from a stave.

overall log from the knot/limb on the left to the cut end is 62"ish...

The section in this photo is relatively straight. Could a guy split that into billets? they'd be 40"ish each.

i hacked off the butt end. here's what I'm left with. Stuck it in the attic until i decide what to do.

I hope somebody says yes, because the wood looks nice. I know squat about Mulberry.

Possibly if you have enough length to cut all the knots off. With all the work it takes,I believe I would look for a better stave. Split and take another look. >>>----> Ken

That's not a good specimen. It has a lot of twist, the one end is very gnarly and has to come off and you have opposing dog legs.

What PD says. Certainly a challenge. May want to look for something a little more workable for your first bow.
