Vince looks like a keeper i had one with an original quiver with it with the screw into the handle . the glass was bad it was more of a wall hanger . i sold it as a wall hanger .

I recently got a 58, pretty much the same but white glass. I really like mine so easy to understand why you like yours. I think they are very cool looking bows, also like the lightweight longbow like feel

57's are fantastic bows! Good weight too.

Thanks guys, that weight even though I wanted a bit more will serve me well for a lot more years to come.

I have a '57 as well, 64" 47# @ 28. A joy to shoot and hunt with.

Great bow I love the 1955-1957 Bears.

Can anyone explain the 2 stamped all over the riser and sight window, is that a factory 2nd or needed to be fixed? It also has a name in the window W. Brenke and W.B stamped next to the 2's in the other areas of the riser. Is this person a boyer or original owner?

From: Knifeguy
Date: 22-Jan-18

I bought my 57 last year at RMSGear. I shot it for 2 hours before I paid for it. One of my better decisions! The 2 stamp is factory 2nd like you suspect and they were usually cosmetic. W.B. Probably an owner somewhere along the line. Have Fun. Lance

rock74- as Knifeguy states above, I found this online..

"Contrary to recent information I've heard, and according to the people who actually wrote the serial numbers at the Grayling plant, many of these defective bows were metal stamped on the riser. A "2" stamp indicated a factory second or blemish and a "22" stamp indicated a more serious defect."

From: Heat

Those seconds are probably nicer than current production that's for sure. I love those 57 Kodiak's! Nice bow.

From: rock74
Date: 22-Jan-18

Thanks guys for all the info, the only thing i see cosmetically wrong is the silk screens are blurry and not as sharp as they should be. If thats the only thing wrong I can live with that. This bow is for hunting not collecting.

If you read Bows on the Little Delta you will see that year's bow got a good work out on I think their first trip to the Little Delta area.

The book was written by Glen St Charles. You have a classic there.

Thanks again to all who replied, this site is great for information. Now onto a quiver unless someone has a tape on that i havent found yet I may go this route.

This fell into my lap this morning so Ill set it up most likely with a stud and strap instead of using tape.

This is the super bow of bows Frisky got nothing on me ;^)

Great bows , I have a 57 one of my favorite bows.

From: Frisky
Date: 23-Jan-18

That 57' will serve you well, but it's a far cry from the Super Bow of Bows! I'd place it slightly below a 76er.

There is a reason Brandon Stahl patterned his ACE after those bows. Now that my Grayling Bear collecting addiction has been cured my ACE will have to do.

rock74....I mount those tape-on quivers with two fat tight fitting automotive "O" rings on each arm. Nice and tight, and better looking than other alternatives!

Recently got a ‘56, and it’s a keeper.

I have been looking for one of those for a while now. Very nice bow.

From: rock74

SB - Im going to give that a try, seems like the easiest and cleanest way of doing it.

From: rock74

Joe - I wouldn't trade this bow for a barrel full of 76er's.

That would be great to get a deer with a bow that old. Nice find!

Looks good rock! ...I usually put a bit of beeswax on the leather pads on the quiver arms ....insurance against any slipping...but I've never had any issues either way. The main thing is to make sure the arms are bent to properly match the contour of the limbs where it's mounted.

From: Mike E
Date: 25-Jan-18

Very nice,, that tape on quiver really compliments those old Bears.

River - I have two Bear bows with the shelves cut that way the one pictured and a 74' Kodiak Hunter, aesthetically it doesn't look good to me but they both shoot fine.

From: wooddamon1 Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Between the slender limbs, narrow riser section and well crafted tips, the pre-59 Kodiaks are gracefull, and good looking(to me). I never thought something so plain would appeal to me.

Riverwolf. It's the high point somewhere on the shelf that's important. On various bows, I've seen the shelf high on the belly side, back side as well as the middle (radiused).

Regardless, the idea is to create a shelf that has as little contact with the arrow as possible, which lets the arrow pass the riser more cleanly with little or no contact, which in turn leads to better arrow flight. That's why most folks who own bows with perfectly flat shelves put a small wedge under the shelf material to create a high point.

Good looking bow Mike, what are the specs on yours?

From: Heat
Date: 30-Jan-18

I'm surprised there isn't a bowyer out there making replicas of this bow.
