I really like my Summit Climber, but I am always looking for something better. One thing I have learned over the years Bowhunting is that you need to move sometimes to be successful. Wondering if there is a stand that's simpler and quieter and easier to setup and take down? How does a Lone Wolf lumber compare?

I've owned a few popular climbers. The lone wolf hand climber with a climbing seat strap, XL cables, and "Claw" back pack straps are what I find works best. Nothing to get in the way of your bow limbs, light, larger trees, and you can strap that seat up out of your way if you want. I'm not a big fan of climbers, they are just another tool for the right situation.

Don't use my climbers as much as I used to now that I'm past 70, but I still have a Lone Wolf hand climber. I now use a strap from the hand climber to turn it into a seat climber, which is a little easier to use, though a bit slower.
Regardless, I don't think you'll find a lighter, sturdier, quieter climber than a LW. Some complain that the seat isn't comfortable enough. I sit mine dark to dark without any problems.

I have been using an API bow hunter stand for about 20 years, light, easy to set up, the seat is very comfortable and the stand is open to the front for bow hunting.
As I got older (60s) I didn't like the hand climb feature of the stand so I got a heavy duty adjustable strap to put between the hand grips and turned the stand into a seat climber. My strap has loops on each end so I can remove it when I am hunting.

I have a Lone Wolf Sit-N-Climb. It's the climber I typically use... Compact, quiet, comfortable, easily adjustable.
I also have a Summit. It is an excellent stand too. I have not found another climber more solid on the tree than the Summit. It just doesn't fold flat and isn't as adjustable.
I have replaced the factory seats on both with a Hazmore net seat... quiet, super light, comfortable. It is a upgrade worth investigating for around $30.

I've been researching climbers for bowhunting public lands where I need to pack in steep terrain for no short distances, for next season. Weight is a huge concern to me. 1-2 extra pounds can feel like 50 after a few climbs up steep ridges and hollers. I've so far narrowed my choices down to a Summit Open Shot at 15 lbs or the X-Stand X-1 at 13 lbs. I'll sacrifice a little comfort for a light weight, maneuverable stand any day.

I use a old loggy bayou and I hug the tree. I love that thing, its light. And I kill a lot of deer out of it. Wish they still made them.
I wish someone made a small simple stand like that still.
People laugh when I use it, but I laugh back and say its what separates then men from the boys.

they all work good if you practice from them, have used Lone Wolf, API Grandslam, Summit Goliath and now use a Summit Titan.. as long as you set up for the bow your using they all work fine. The Titan is a heavy stand but since I hunt mostly farmland and don't carry it much over 1/2-3/4 mile at most it works fine.

I have two a lone wolf hand climber and an api bowhunter.I prefer the lone wolf over the api because its so much easier to pack in and out and wieghs less.the api is one of the most comfortable stands I've used though just harder to move.just according to what the situation is on which one i take into the woods although my son usally is in the api.oh well I cant sit in but one at a time anyhow.easy to pack set up and move cant beat the lone wolf.

Climbing stands are as common as iced tea in the South.
For absolute sneaky quiet slipping in bed areas, the Ol Man Vision has always reined # 1.
But considering weight and packing around on public lands, the Summit Elite Viper SD is the next best and lighter than the Ol Man. Not as quiet though.

I have used two, X-stand sit and climb and a Lone Wolf Hand Climber, of the two, the LW is hands down better in every way, especially for longer stick bows. Lighter, more compact, more stable, more bow clearance. Etc etc etc

I use the Lone Wolf ...used the strap option last year to make it a sit and climb but if you are large framed, that won't work extremely well....there is just not a lot of room and it is annoying.....going up the tree just a couple inches each pull. I replaced the factory seat with a 1 1/2" piece of heavy, dense foam cut to the same shape and now I lean on that foam while going up the tree with my belly and with hands around the tree. Quick ascent....simple and comfortable. After using the Lone Wolf, it is hard for me to get excited about hauling my heavy Summit around anymore.

I regularly do 6-8 hour sits on the lone wolf hand climber...oys not a summit or hazemore seat, but it's better than my loc-ons. I find it more than adequate and every other feature outweighs the seat. I actually got rid of my summit because i kept falling asleep...a little discomfort is good. I'm hunting ton lounging :-)

Climbers are all I've used for 30 years.
At 65, I'm getting more and more nervous about leaving terra firma with my titanium left, and trashed right knee, so I'm more often than not ground pounding.
That said, the Summit Viper is the most stable, comfortable, and secure stand I've ever used. For all day sits, it's awesome. Solid when going up & down and easy peasy to use.
It may seem cumbersome at first, but after a lifetime packing into back country, I'm good.
As far as a detriment in hunting, I only go 10 to 12 feet anymore and have hadno ttrouble killing deer. There IS a learning curve on how to shoot out of them with the rails, but once I figured out the right height to set it...all good.

Summit Open Shot is a great stand, hard to beat. I bought one this year but because of a back problem I have it's not going to work for me. After 2 or 3 hours it's hard for me to deal with. Nothing wrong with the stand just a physical thing with me personally.

What is important to me is quietness in the 4:30 am darkness - deer near and any metallic noise can be heard 100 yards +.
The Summit Viper Elite SD, ( 16 lbs, big round tubing ) is not as quiet as an original Ol Man. No matter how careful you are, flexing those cable stops out of the slot makes some noise. And the platform must be foamed when you first get it otherwise that hollow tuning fork noise.
And Ol Man Treestand vision type ( NOT the CTS ) is deadly quiet. Absolute no noise whatsoever. We have been using Ol Man Treestands since the early 90'. Today I am not familiar with the current owners. I mostly use the Summit SD Elite because of the 16 pound liteness.
We used Hattisburg Mississippi made Ol Mans. Today I think they come from China.
Summit I believe, is still in Alabama.
The heyday of climbers was the late 80's into the 90's, although today technology is better. Amacker, API , Loggy Bayou, ALL were headquartered in Louisiana. Ol Man was in Hattisburg, MS.

I have a Summit SD, very comfortable, but not very mobile, still too heavy, I usually cache it at my spots,,,,,, I looked at the Xop,,,,, I have used the LW,,,,, there all too heavy for me....
but a good climber, using your harness as soon as you leave the ground, is safer than them ladder stands that everyone is falling out of, and the statistics are there to prove it

The Tree Walker isn't what I would personally want. It doesn't fold flat, its "clunky" on the back, I refuse to use pins and line-up holes to secure my tree strap/cable and the rail around it sucks. No offense, its just what I would say if I walked by it in a store. Lone Wolf is lighter, easier to use with zero lighting in the morning or night, no noise at all, it is more compact on the back and has no annoying rail.

Pearl Drums I just leave the rail on and swing it out. You are right it does not fold flat BUT for some reason carry’s very easy and I’m only 5’4” tall. It carry’s a hundred times easier then the Summit open shot I used to have. The clips are tight but you get used to using them quickly. Not really anything I have negative about it. Looks can be deceiving.

if you want to make your climber super stable on tree get a set of Third Hand Archery stabilizer straps and install them/use like instructions say to, makes any climber rock solid of the tree, your weight locks stand down, best 15.00 investment Ive made for hunting.

I've been made a believer in the Tree Walker climbing stand. my hunting buddy has had one for years & I finally got one 3 years ago. I love everything about it except one modification that it needs. The threaded bolts they have sharpened down to grab the tree needed a nut added to them to cut back on the penetration they were doing into the tree. Otherwise the stand is lightweight, sturdy, comfortable, quiet, and very easy to set up & take down. I'm not in the selling business but it sure deserves to be looked at. I just thought I liked different brands before I got this one.
