What Broadhead are you guys using with your traditional equipment? I am coming form the Compound side mostly and I am not up to date on the best Traditional braodheads.

I will be using a bow in the 50-60 pound range and probably staying in the 125-175g range.

So... Looking good suggestions.

Thanks!

Kinda depends on your ability to sharpen a broadhead. I learned many moons ago how to sharpen head with a mill file and it makes the choices even greater. I've used Bear Razorheads for decades, but since they are no longer made (although I still have plenty) I started using Ace Standards. It's an old...old company and a great head that is pretty easy to sharpen. You can get them up to heavy weights as well, and you don't have to mortgage the house to buy some.

Love Razorcaps. Wish they still made them.

From: Beendare
Date: 20-Jan-18

I like the VPA 150's. Both the 2 and 3 blades shoot to the same POI in my recurve.

I've shot the other similar designs like the -Snuffer and Magnus snuffer ss, Hellrazors- but found flaws with their manufacturing- couldn't get some edges razor sharp. The CNC machined VPA's are more consistent, good steel and spin perfect.

And I like the 150gr over 125s....why not have a BH with more steel on the working end of your arrow?

Grizzly single bevel, Zwickey Delta 2 blade, and Woodsman 3 blade. No real reason other than they fly great for me, I can get em sharp, and they're all readily available.

The Griz has been my go-to the last few years.

My main stay heads are weasel woodsman and zwickies, Eskimos. Great heads, proven over time and fly great. Eskimos have to be one of the easiest to sharpen.

Get you a set of zwickeys or woodsmans and see if you can sharpen em. If not you’ll need a replaceable blade head. You can go with the old standby 3 blade muzzy. You can use brass inserts if you need to beef up the tip

From: dean

never touch my wife's Zwickey Eskimos or her shooting glove. She sharpens them with a file, then a Nada wheel, a light touch with a diamond hone and then a couple of strops with an old belt. They will peel hair easier than a razor.

Mountain Man: Thats a good looking Black Diamond. When I use the same metal heads I also round the sharp points off.

From: David McLendon
Date: 21-Jan-18

"Simmons going away from glue ons was a bad idea IMO."

They said the demand was too low to support, for me it won't matter because the Centaur Big Game Head and Battle Axe are a much better quality head with better construction and materials. I don't think that I'll outlive my Snuffer stash but if I do then I'll go to VPA 160 3 blade. I don't retire undamaged broadheads when they make a kill and it takes a lot of re-sharpening to wear one out so I'm probably good for a little while.

From: OBH
Date: 21-Jan-18

Cutthroat 125's. Solid one piece and so easy to sharpen. Excellent and short blood trails.

From: Shotkizer
Date: 21-Jan-18

Zwickey Eskimo two blades. Best broadhead for the money IMO and easy to sharpen. I usually keep about a dozen razor sharp for me and my two sons that Bowhunt. If it was just me, I would buy Eclypses for their better quality.

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 21-Jan-18

"Almost" any cut on contact broadhead will more than adequately do the job. "IF" you can get it sharp & shooting properly.

I prefer one piece machined heads from one solid piece of "high grade tool steel".

Yes, those type heads are much more expensive to purchase, BUT since I seldom lose an arrow, they actually wind up being less expensive in the long run, because they out last the softer/more fragile broadheads by a very long time, and have an almost "zero" failure rate compared to those other softer/more fragile heads.

Using that type head, I usually wind up using the same head over & over again for multiple kills over a long period of time, and the others just ride in the quiver for that "just in case" moment if it happens.

I use the 300 gr Steelforce Traditional, it is a 2 blade single bevel. I haven't shot anything with them, however my buddy used them the last 2 years and harvested a nice buck both years. His arrows went completely thru the deer and he said that it happened so fast that he thought he had missed. Neither deer went very far before they collapsed. I am hoping for the same result next archery season.
