I am in the process of setting up my own personal 3D course in a small pine thicket a few hundred yards from my house. The place is beautiful and I am excited to get started. I have a bunch of 3D targets, elk, bear hog deer, javelin, etc.. When my targets got shot up so bad I could not repair them anymore, I cut them into shapes of owls, ground hogs and other small targets. I want to add more and I am looking for ideas others may have to make unique targets. If you have ideas or have made your won targets, I'd like to see some. I will post photos of the course when I get it completed.

Not able to post photos, John, but can perfectly describe the "unique targets" I made for my 3-D course. They cost nothing but a little time and are easily replaced/repaired. They do, however, require that you use stumping arrows. I refer to them as my "poor man's 3-D targets."
They are nothing more than 24"-30" sections of dead pine logs that are roughly 12" in diameter. I drill four, 1" holes in the bottom wherein I drive smaller pieces of pine to create legs and one hole in the top where I attach a smaller diameter piece of pine to simulate a head.
From time to time I've had to replace broken or rotted legs but for the most part I still have the original twelve "poor man's 3-D targets" I started with eight or ten years ago.
While I'm an addicted rover, I've found these home made targets are an excellent way to prepare for deer season. The only caveat, as stated above, is that you'll want to use arrows set up for stumping.

You can always use chunks of foam to back 2D targets like the ones from Oncore

I save Clorox jugs and milk jugs. Spray "great stuff" foam in them and let that cure. Then insert cheap dowels for the legs. Spray paint them black. Cheap little piggies that are almost impossible to wear out.
