I started a trade with this guy during the October swap and trade thread his Mathews q2 for my Morrison ilf riser. I offered to send him my riser and if he was pleased with it send me the compound. The riser arrives and he text me that it’s great and the compound will be on it’s way. 2 weeks pass no word no responses to text then I get a text back saying he’s in the hospital. I wish him well and he says don’t worry my wife will ship the bow. Another week passes he apologizes and says he’s been too weak to travel but do I want to trade a 59 Kodiak for one of my longbows. I turned that down because of course I still hadn’t received my first trade. Two weeks pass he stops all communication until I threaten to call the police he then says he was broke and ashamed is why he did it and that he will ship this past Friday. BUT I find out he has sold the 59 Kodiak to tundrabuck125 on here and stopped all his communication with him during the time he was trying to trade it to me. IT EVEN GETS BETTER at one point during his lies he claims my riser was full of cracks but that he is going to send it back with the compound. Here it is Saturday and 6 weeks in I still don’t have either one and as far as I know neither does tundra.

That sucks David, I had something similar a couple years ago.

When a person is down all they have to do is ask, not steal, cheat and lie.

Thanks for the heads up, unfortunately at your cost.

Thanks for posting you may save someone else from getting ripped off!!! I know your feeling an being betrayed far to well... My bow was sold on face book.

I just don’t want someone else to get taken. I bent over backwards for this guy.

From: Cameron Root

I almost did awhile back. The trade never took place just as well. We put trust into trades very rare it doesn't work out but dirt balls need to be advertised . Thanks for the update.

I’ve done around 50 trades on here all have been good except 2. This one stung

I find trading and selling to be a bit of a headache, so I gave out four bows this year. It still turned out be a headache, I asked that they could use the bows and if not give it back. Two of them came back, they both left with six new cedar arrows that would shoot out of the bows, the arrows did not come back. One I gave away, a Robertson Pierce Point longbow with a full dozen arrows, six target points and six 145 Ribtecs, he found that I had it at one time listed it for sale and I got paid for it, for that price. This moving archery equipment around is a fickle thing. Another one, I looked for years to find someone that could shoot my 70" 89 pound Big Five, I had two of them. One I sold for $100, the other I gave to a strong wise ass farm kid. That dirty bugger found someone to grind off the back glass, reduce the core and glue it all back up to make a super sweet and shorter 60 pounder out of it. Then to make matters worse, he stopped by to show me pictures of the buck he was getting mounted.

I had a bad transaction on craigslist 3 years ago for a 1959 Kodiak Special. Spoke to the person by phone, sent USPS money order. Then NOTHING..............

Never returned calls. USPS money order needs something like 30-60 days to file a claim. Uggh.

Finally spoke to my local police about it. They stated this situation is "theft by deception." They contacted the local police in the other guy's town. One week later, I had the bow. The seller never called, or answered any of my calls or emails. At least I got the bow- but it took almost 3 months.

Call your local police, or the other guys' and push a bit. The guy is past "acting reasonably." That's why we have police. Document your communications for them. Good luck.

I wonder did he have a greenstripe riser for sale a while back?

I work in criminal justice and even the majority of the folks I deal with are decent folks. I am going to make a few calls on Monday to see what can be done hopefully the local pd there will be helpful.

I am fortunate, there are enough shoots and shows, where I live, that I can easily sell and trade, first hand,,,,, I recently bought a bow, here, great deal,,,, however being first hand is the best

Always ship to a home address, never send to a PO box. Always ship so the person receiving it has to sign for it (you have a witness that way) and keep all the correspondence between you and that party. Makes I whole easier for the police and the local prosecutor.

From: Pdiddly
Date: 10-Dec-17

That's really disappointing to think that someone would expose themselves as being deceitful and untrustworthy on a small forum like this.

How can one conceive of doing such a thing, given the inevitable outcome of being exposed as as scum on scum's shoes?

From: umich1
Date: 10-Dec-17

I did a trade with him last year. He did send the bow but not the arrows and extras. When I questioned, he said something about family member in hospital and was traveling. Then he said he was short on funds and would ship arrows when he got paid. Well never happened so I just said F it. At least I got the bow.

"Always ship to a home address, never send to a PO box....."

But, a home's physical address can read as a PO Box in some areas.

When I lived in the U.P. My house address was P.O. Box 208, Shunk Rd......

FWIW

I had an incident with a deadbeat trader earlier this year. I paid with a USPS money order for an item he said would take "two or three weeks" to make. A couple months later he finally sent pics saying he had to finish up. After that there has been no response to PMs,calls, or emails.

Barring his passing, I call deadbeat POS on this.

Sorry to hear of your troubles with this, David.

Contact your local District Attorney's Office and see what they can do. I had a similar situation once with a custom built whitewater-capable cataraft I ordered from a guy. I paid in full and he would not deliver. Once the DA's office got involved and an official letter sent to him stating if he did not comply with our agreement or refund my money they would consider felony fraud prosecution against him, he sent my money back. Sad that it had to take that to get him to do what was right.

From: Bob Rowlands

this is classic case of why i don,t work deals with guys i have never met and don,t personally know, especially if they live more than acouple hours drive away. there are many oguys on this site thay have been here forever, regular members with long history. those guys i would trade with. unless ithem, uh uh no way. these rip off artists know they are in for hundreds and most men won,t prosecute until say 1k is lost. all the i,m ill, family sick, no money, imma outta work, down on luck, springer drama is a sure tell.

From: Dkincaid
Date: 10-Dec-17

Unfortunately it’s a misdemeanor here and won’t get much help due to it being in another state. If the other guy and I both contact his police department it should be enough for a minor felony depending on West Virginia laws.

Funny, Arra Chucker ((Spinks) got me too. He kept telling me he would make it right but never did. When I saw him back On the Trade thread I asked him to please pay his debts before moving on. Oh well-I am only out fifty feathers not a bow.

That's too bad. This idiot is ruining his name over a few archery items. What this thief (and that's what he is, a lying thief) needs is a visit and some lessons concerning honesty. I'll bet he'd act very different if he were confronted in person.

From: Sawtooth (Original) Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

Oh, and I've only been cheated once on here- and it was a guy named Scott Garrett or "techieok". He clipped me for some gasket laquer and some smaller stuff. He's another scumbag.

From: BiPolar
Date: 10-Dec-17

I thought of posting something about him-but I am generally reluctant to do so over something so small (especially if he was telling the truth). This is a good community and I really like to think this is a rarity. I did put a “hex” on the feathers and he is not likely to take any animals with them....

From: Jerry

From: Tboughty

I know some people are reluctant to call people out on stuff like this but threads like this can be very important and helpful in preventing it from screwing someone in the future. He's gypped four people in this thread so far so it's obviously a trending issue with him. He'll probably make another account with a different name and keep doing it if he can.

From: Dkincaid

He will do it again I have tried to find him on Facebook but I can’t I’m sure he will turn up there on the trade sites. I’m hoping the local pd puts a stop to it but I’m also realistic

Most people on here are (stand up) guys and gals. Any time we deal with people outside of our local, We take a risk!!! Most of my dealings have gone fine. Two of mine have gone south! I am sorry for your loss. Don't let it ruin your faith in humanity!

Incidents like these make it harder to trust anyone, even the good folk take the brunt.

Luckily I've had a very few bad experiences. Yet.

There are always two sides to every story.

That said, this man needs to come clean with his deeds, apologize for his behavior, make restitution wiyth those he has lied and cheated, face his maker with a sincere heart to change. ONLY then will be forgiven, and his consciendce CLEARED. Until then, believe me, he is stewing in his own juices. He may be laughing and saying 'Suckers!!' but that won't last. We aren't made that way. A clean conscience can't be bought, and, a clean conscience is very precious gift.

From: Dkincaid

My only experience was a couple years ago he was needing a bow but couldnt afford it-I actually loaned him a bow for season-I forget but maybe a Bear TD! It took a little coaxing, got a little awkward but he sent my bow back after season was over.

I think bows can be like revolving charge accounts-rob Peter to pay Paul and its a losing scenario eventually.Best off not trading what you cant afford.
