Hi all,
I'm in the final stages of finishing up a Belcher bow blank, the hybrid, and thought I would share some pics. It's Jim's Longhorn model, 66" and 34@28.
If you are at all into woodworking I'd recommend you give these a try. Super fun and they don't take a lot of specialized tools. I finished this one with some files, an old detail sander, a crappy belt sander and some left over finish.
Best part was the cost. I've always wanted a "target" Longhorn but couldn't afford the price. This route is much more affordable.

Thanks for kind words. Here is a pic of the profile, hopefully it doesn't come out sideways.
I added the overlays myself. The riser is out of figured Mozambique as is the overlay. The bottom part of the overlay is cut from a piece of wood i found in my dad's garage.
The blank was a bit more than the standard because i upgraded the riser. I believe action wood is the standard option. I wanted something heavier. Here is the website for these, as you can see there are some more options in terms of models available.

The riser is Figured Mozambique. I had never heard of it before and later Jim told me they use it in railway bridges in Africa. Very hard and dense stuff - at least if you are using hand tools.
It was a bit harder to work with compared to other woods i have experience with like diamond wood, rosewood or wenge in terms of toughness. It finished up nicely and has some decent heft which i like.
I haven't really tuned the bow yet but it shoots Carbon Express Predators 800 spine with 175 tips amazingly well. I set the nock point at 1/2 inch above centre and the shafts fly without any wobble. I shot them through paper and they are just about perfect bullet holes, just very slightly weak.
The bow shoots great. It is super smooth and stable, and has quite a bit of performance. I'll see if I can find some unbraced pics which show the reflex in the limbs.

Ovangkol, Amazique, Amazoue, Mozambique, and Shedua, they are all the same wood with different names.
Great looking bow, well done.

175 grain tips! I bet it shows week. I would think you could easily go to 700 spine arrows.

Was the arrow shelf cut out and roughed in when you received the blank. Was your grip roughed in?
