I have recently started looking for used Rose Oak Creations recurves on the classifieds. What is the difference between the Wildcat and the Super Wildcat. Are they the same bow only different levels of "fancy"? Saw a reference somewhere to the Super Wildcat being a new name for the old Puma. Brandon has pretty much shut down his old website so it's hard to get accurate information about his bows.

Brandon hasn't shut down his site, it just doesn't get much traffic anymore. If you post over there he will answer you, or you can PM him here. I think he uses "Recurve Crafter" as a handle on here.

I think he's referring to my Rose Oak Creations website (not Trad Archers.com).
There's not much bow info on my Rose Oak site anymore, and I'm going to officially close down the bow business at the end of this year.
I just haven't had much spare time over the past several months to make any bows, and I decided that I shouldn't be selling anymore of them to the general public if I'm not able to provide decent and reliable customer service. It's time to wrap things up.
I might update the Rose Oak website with a some images of bows that I've made from 2005 to 2017 as a final tribute to my professional bow making career, but I won't be using the website to sell anymore bows in the future.
In regards to the Wildcat versus the Super Wildcat, the "Wildcat" was a name I used for a variety of different designed 3 pc. TD recurves from about 2005 to 2009.
The Super Wildcat was a one piece recurve (60" and 64") that I started offering in 2009, and I only offered it for a few years.
It's design was inspired by the Super Kodiak (one of my personal favorites) although it's not just a "copy".
It was basically my take on a classic.
The two bows look very similar at a passing glance, but side by side they are different designs.
The Super Wildcat is more refined and elegant in design and shape than a Super Kodiak.
It is absolutely of the finest one piece recurves that I've ever made.
There are less than 40 in circulation, so there aren't very many of them, but they do pop up for sale every once in a while.

Here are some of the different "Wildcat" TD's that were made.
I monkeyed around with, and changed the design a lot until I finally realized that I really don't care for 3 piece TD recurves...lol
I stopped making and offering 3 piece TD's altogether for several years (from about 2010 to 2015).
Then I designed the "Heritage" TD and offered them until I stopped taking custom orders in the spring of last year.

I was happy to help contribute to the cause, and I hope you enjoy the bow for many years to come.
Honestly, I couldn't hardly believe what that bow auctioned off for.
It was certainly more than I ever expected one of my bows to bring.
Kind regards.

Beautiful bows for sure. Wish I had one - ANY one. I shot his Heritage for a week during a pass around, and it was awesome.
There was a LH Wildcat or Super Wildcat for sale for a long time in the classifieds on Brandon's Trad Archers.net site. Actually, it is still there, but the pics are not showing up anymore. Looked like a great price too.

Brandon - thanks for sharing the pictures and details about the bow styles. I have an Ace and a Primal Instinct and now that I know the background of the Super Wildcat I'm definitely going to have to find someone willing to part with one. Have always been a one-piece guy but recently have been reading so many good things about the Heritage I thought I'd try to find one or a nice Wildcat. Thanks for your contributions to the world of traditional archery. You've made some truly special bows. Bob

"Brandon, How many wildcat TD bow did you make?"
I don't recall an exact number, but not very many.
I can't refer to my older bow build records for an accurate number at the moment because most of them are packed up and stored away.
The several variations of the Wildcat TD design were so different that most people wouldn't realize that they were all Wildcat TD's until they saw the model name on the bow.
I probably should have renamed it each time I changed the design, but I was lazy and didn't feel like coming up with a new model name each time...lol
I offered two other 3 pc TD's after the Wildcat TD was discontinued.
One was the Prowler TD, and the other was the Heritage TD.
Either one of those would be my personal pick over a Wildcat TD.

If you can get your hands on a Rose Oak bow, or on Rose Oak limbs for a Bear TD -- well, just do it. I have had 3 and shot others and the Rose Oak is the best recurve I have ever shot or looked at. Brandon's bows are the best, and his craft in building them is as perfect as any I have ever seen.
I am on my way to the classifieds to see if there is one in my draw weight.

What about wildcats vs ultra delights vs the ace? Which do you guys prefer the best? What's your favorite Brandon? And what's your new site? Trad archers. Com? Hard to pick a favorite with them all being so amazing. Right now, for me, I'm leaning towards the ultra delight, and your bear TD limbs.

Why do some of the best bowyers stop making bows?

Why do some of the best bowyers stop making bows?
(1) Despite what some people think, most bowyers do not make a lot of money doing this. Exotic woods are very expensive. It takes many hours of labor to produce a finished product. Advertisement in major magazines is expensive. There is no pension program or company-provided health care. (2) Health. Working with band saws and high speed belt sanders is an accident waiting to happen. The dust of some exotic woods is toxic. Breathing wood dust is not healthy, although nearly all bowyers use masks when working. Finishing sprays often utilize harmful solvents. Minor nicks and cuts are to be expected.
Hopefully, Brandon will decide at some point in time to return to bowyering. He is very talented and makes very good bows.

Unfortunately, I don't have any spare bows laying around that I'm going to sell.
The bows that are already in circulation will likely be the only ones available.
I truly appreciate the interest in my bows, but I've officially closed my business and I don't have any future plans to resume making them for customers. That chapter of my life has passed.
My bows do pop up for sale every now and then on the used market, so just keep your eye out. You'll eventually find what you're looking for. ;^)

I have to say out of all my hundreds of customs over the years Rose Oaks has been the tops in craftsmanship without any doubts.
Brandon's one of the best if not the best, he really is and if you have any of his bows or seen any of them up close you would see for yourself I think.
Think its a lot more Frank than just a nice bow with most of his work. On my last one the Heritage he did in red glass and then picked out some out of this world Birdseye for riser that's incredible.
