My wife was hinting around that maybe it was her turn for a new bow, and i was happy to oblige. Mulberry, 62 inches, high 30's at 26 inch draw.

Bob, I have a big Mulberry tree in the back. How does it work and how does it perform compared to Hickory or Osage? Any special tips on harvesting or working it? Thanks,>>>----> Ken

2bears: Mulberry is closely related to Osage. You treat it similarly in my experience. Great bow wood! And Bob has really done it justice here! Nice work Bob:-)

Its not nearly the wood osage is. Make it 15-20% wider and longer and temper it for best results. Harvest it anytime you can get at it, just like osage its best to peel bark and sapwood off before storage.

Thanks guys, appreciate it.

Chris, you beat me to the punch. I have read so many times how close osage and mulberry are, but after making a few I don't feel mulberry is near as good a bow wood as osage either.

Mulberry is better than a lot of them, though. I just gained access to unlimited amounts of it. Cant wait to get the chainsaw out this winter and pick a few off. Id like to get enough to hand out to my friends at the Marshall, Mi gathering this spring.

Fine looking bow Bob. Thanks Woodshavings and PEARL DRUMS good to know there is something workable here. There is also a Hackberry Hear it is not bad. I haven't seen any Osage anywhere in the area in many years. >>>----> Ken

That's nice! A lot of work went in that bow. I can't believe mulberry isn't more popular. I have my eye on one that has at least 3" of back set in it. I have been watching it grow for 3 years. :-)
