I just finished sanding down my Formica riser on my cascade to refinish with tru-oil. I put painters tape on the fiberglass limbs to protect. I just started taking tape off, and a big piece of fiberglass came off with it! Does this mean I’m at risk of more splitting? Safe to shoot? The little 45# bow shoots great. If safe, it may be a candidate for a nice camo job...ugh

Blue painters tape releases so easy I'd think it must have been secretly lifting already.Sand it smooth and paint it.

It must have been, but they looked great before hand. That’s why I taped. Good excuse for some custom paint I guess.

Sorry can’t figure out where the glass came off. Yes I see it but with the blurry picture can’t really tell location. Is the bow a takedown?

Not a great pic but looks like north of the sight window and south of the fades. I would epoxy it down and try it out. Much better than having it on the tips.

whooda thought blue tape would do that.

I agree. If you have the piece that came up, epoxy it back in place. You can then either camp it, or try blending it in with black. I don't think it's critical, but I would inspect closely for other areas of lifting glass too.

Steve:

I have used Loctite 420 with good results.

Well the good thing is it’s on the belly and mostly over the handle portion. It just might be useable the way it is. How thick is the piece of glass that came off?

Couldn’t he use something like a black Fiberglass and then sand it smooth and refinish?

It just thick enough to peal off the tape. It’s a Shakespear cascade, and shoots great. I was planning on a nice gloss refinish, but now I have a good excuse to camo, but just want to secure that spot with something. Thx

Just be sure not to use 5 minute epoxy. The longer curing stuff is generally much stronger. I have some that takes a day to fully set and it is bombproof.

I don't know and maybe folks here have more real world experience than me. But in my experience glass don't do that unless it suffered some sort of trauma. The tape sure didn't pull it up if it were glued and solid.

If that defect extends ot in to the fades, it's just a matter of time before that glass comes loose all the way up.

Just a thought. Are you sure that is not a coating of some sort like an epoxy paint??? I haven't see a thin layer of glass pull away. It is usually all or nothing. Good luck. >>>----> Ken

It was definitely fiberglass Glass and not paint. I’m going to put a slow dry epoxy and put a paint job on her... I’ll post progress. Thanks for all the feedback. So much for resale value, but I did get a doe with it this year, before deciding to re- finish, so hopefully I can keep it around for a while.

I’ve never seen that happen with painter’s tape. I would try to take it off and glue it back on. Then refinish it with the gloss. The Cascade is a great bow, imho. Get the right string and get it braced correctly and it is awesome. I love how they shoot. Love how sturdy they are, and how unfussy they are when it comes to arrows.

Wow. I can't imagine that happening with painters tape. I would keep a CLOSE eye on the whole bow. I would glue, sand, refinish and watch the whole thing for a catastrophic delam.
