1. As you age does your draw length shorten? I used to (when I started trad 14 years ago) draw 29 , but now its everything to do to hit 28

My cousin who is an aging archer has the same issue.

also can a clicker be used on a long bow?

Maybe you just learned to measure more honestly?

I use a clicker on my longbow. Don't get hung up on draw length as a number. It is what it is. Getting proper form, backtension, and aligmnment are key.

There is hope for those short arrows yet! I was thinking about giving them away.

I have dropped in bow weight and my draw length is as long as always. I am shooting an ILF riser because of the availability of very efficient lightweight limbs so that performance doesn't suffer. I'm in my sixties and my joints need all the TLC I can offer.

Sir,

IMHO, it has more to do with joint flexibility. Stretches are critical as we age, as well as maintaining muscle tone and mass. An exercise routine to work the whole body translates to a balanced relationship of muscle groups working together. In particular, I'm thinking of the support, or hindrance, an archer receives from the torso.

It only makes sense to me, that when we age, our draw would get shorter.

Yes, poor posture as you age will affect draw length. Those who stoop a little and are hunched over will loose draw length.

Yes I would say so on some days and depending on weight I am pulling as well as cloths in cold. I have to stretch it out some times.LOL

I found the more I lean into a shot the less I will draw before I let it go. That's why I say game shots vary.

We tend to blame age for a lot of things, and it can be the culprit. Mine is the same as it was in 1964....27" and a fraction.

SM -

Hard to answer. People's bodies change throughout their lives and after a point not for the better. As a general statement if muscle mass and connective tissue deteriorate, that yes, you'd expect draw lengths do get shorter. Prior to that point, people "evolve", and changes in form can and usually do result in draw length changes.

While I've never tried using a clicker on a longbow, since it's been done, I'd have to agree. Just remember that there are blade type clickers that work off the arrow, and limb clickers which work off the position of the limb and string. I'd guess the latter would be more appropriate on a LB.

Viper out.
