What is the best fletching glue for feathers. I have always used fletch tire but I am getting frustrated with it. Feathers coming off here lately.

I really like the tape.......all I've used for over ten years now.no compatibility issues....

I have not had any problem with fletch tite, though I have switched to Duco. I can get it at a better price. One problem that I have experienced in the past is if I don't clean my shafts properly, or if my adhesives have gotten old. I honestly don't know what the shelf life is on these glues, so if I have a tube that has been open for a year I will toss it and I put the date that I open it on the tube. I hope this helps. you will get a hole lot of opinions on this, so good luck.

Tried many different brands with mixed results. Using Gorilla Glue now its cheap and works great.

You are going to get dozens of conflicting replies on this. I prefer by far Saunders NPV for all. It remains slightly flexible and never gets brittle.

When I (and many others) had issues with Fletch Tite some years back I ended up using Saunders NPV glue. Most of the issues were trying to Fletch on to bare shafts. From what was posted here and on the gang it seems Bohning tried to change the formula to accommodate carbon shafts. Scrubbing, sanding, and other secret cleaning methods did not work well. I have also read recently these issues were solved. In the meantime I tried E6000 which was a dismal failure for me even on wraps. I only use duco on wood arrows. It does not play well with Bohning products. I have used Gorilla super glue in the blue capped bottle with success as well. I am tape challenged besides the glue on the tape doesn’t hold up to our Az. summer heat. Tape would be so much easier to apply and removal when refletching. There was thread here about the NPV glue not holding up to constant wet conditions. Agian experiences good and bad are what we base our decisions on. Personally if I lived in a more moderate climate I would “teach myself” how to use tape. As I hunt and peck this response I am waiting for “glue to dry” on some arrows I stripped because of some previous experiment with glue and finishes.

I have used the tape for a few years with no problems. I put a drop of fletch tite on each end of the feather and good to go.

Saunders NPV.

SAUNDERS Is my choice.

Once you use super glue you will never go back. Quick, clean, and precise with the bottle that has the needle spout. No extra glue on shafts and 30 seconds you can rotate to the next feather. Good luck. >>>----. Ken

Duco on woods for me. Slower than heck to install but adheres like a mofo.

I've been using Bohning tape for 7 years with zero issues.

I did try a roll of another brand of tape (forget which manufacturer, so don't wanna name a brand and have the wrong brand name), and had a few issues with it pulling loose in spots. Never an issue with Bohning Tape. Its all I use now, and its VERY fast. I also put a dab of Loctite Super Glue on each end of the feather for extra hold on a pass-through (target or animal). No issues. I cant imagine going back to glue.

Bohning Tape

I mostly use tape but if I was building arrow for others or going on a hunting trip I'd be using Saunders NPV.

Gorilla super glue-- bottle w blue cap. I wanted to like the tape, but despite me prepping arrows and shafts and pressing everything down tight, they would eventually reposition themselves on the shaft. Didnt fall off-- just kind of slid around out of position.

PS-- less is more w the super glue-- i put tiny dots about 1/4" apart down quill then smear them together w tip. Too much glue can delay or undermine adhesion ( i read the bottle).

I love fletch-tite in the silver tube. Never had a problem !!!

Before my season here in Ca. i was in a pickle, had no glue for my feathers and I live pretty rural. I had some VLP Glue it is a Vinyl/Leather repair glue, made by Performix. Comes in a tube just like fletching glue. I used it on my feathers to carbon shaft, worked great. Still holding strong, not sure but might be better than fletching glue. I did buy some fletch tite tho.

It works really neat doesn't it Therifleman? >>>----> Ken

Duco is ok but the tube tip is too big in my opinion.

I have had great success with most any of the super glue gel products.

Fletchtite just plain stopped working for me on aluminum shafts a couple of years ago, but seems to still do well on carbon. Tried the new improved version and it wasn't. Switched to NPV last year and so far so good on aluminum and carbon.

Sipsey, When I was making a lot of arrows I bought a small squeeze bottle with a small tip. Squeezed a tube of Duco into it and was good to go with much better control.

I found small bottles with the tips like the Fletch Tite tubes at The Containers Store. Bought a couple. So far so good with not getting the glue stuck in tube. I bought the big bottle of NPV glue. I know, Store use size but after doing simple math I can throw away half the bottle and still save a bunch over per tube prices.

My wife got me a bunch of tubes of Duco at the Dollar store that have larger more open nozzles. They must either be really old or they make more than one style. To keep from gluing my clamps shut, I pinch the tips almost flat. On aluminum one still needs to scrub it to get the oil grime off, but fletch tape fortified with a dab of Gorilla gel superglue on each end and in the middle has been fool proof fore me. When the new Fletchtite came out, the chart at 3 rivers said it would work on bare aluminum. I fletched up some 4 by 4 turkey arrows. While out hunting I noticed someone was using the same feathers as me when i back tracked on a trail. Then later that person had been sitting right where i was because two of those feathers were on the ground by my feet. By the time I got back to my car, I had a pocket full of feathers and not one of my arrows had all four feathers on them.

I should say that Duco for wood is all I use for them. NPV for others.

From: Therifleman
Date: 17-Nov-17

Ken, yes it does work great--- i tried both it and fletchtite over spraybomb cap and cresting. Fletchtite wasnt compatible and didnt hold but gorilla glue did. Have not used it on wood but believe it would work w poly finish.

Also use Saunders. Never had a problem with feathers coming off.

If you are gluing to aluminum, I recently switched to Saunders ,so far so good.
