Shot a nice Doe with my self bow last night, she took off and I ran out of blood trail. She headed into a 40 acre Multa flora patch that you can hardly walk through. I could be 5 yards from her and not see her it's that thick.Going to be a rough morning.

Best of luck,I hope you find her.

Looks like we are on the "same trail", Will. My son and I both hit bucks last night. His I feel good about, mine was too far forward.

I hope you find her my friend.

For any of you who don't know what "multi-flora" is you have no idea what he's facing. Can't think of anything much worse.

What is 'multi-flora'? Is it wild rose bushes or something like that? If so... Ouch!

We have green-briar thickets here and they are a royal pain... deer go through them like snakes, but me, not so well. Carhart clothing is needed...

Good luck finding her!

Get down wind. I have found several deer by smelling them.

Much worse than a rose bush. Thorns on a rose bush point to the flower, multi-flora point to the root. And that is the dilemma, like not being able to walk through.

Get down wind with a dog.

1. Where did you hit her? 2. Did you find the arrow? 3. agree on downwind, you should be able to smell her 4. in the multifloral rose she should be on the same obvious trail on which you last saw her. With a vital hit she should have died on the run. With gut shot she will lay down/head to water. Liver is more problematic as she will change beds numerous times before dying 5. If you do not walk right up on her, then break the section into grids, and do a grid search

Can you get a tracking dog?

Good luck with her Will.

Pearl Drums, same to you guys, I hope you find them.

Sounds like I should have been sitting in my blind last night. Good luck to all the morning trackers. The nose/smell tips might help, as I could smell the bear I shot before I saw it. Also look for ravens and eagles, as they find things quite fast.

Found the arrow about 100 yards from where I hit her. Tracked her another 50 yards and lost her in the Multifloral Rose patch. Good news is the arrow had no smell and it looked like muscle blood, no bubbles. I'm pretty tore up, those thorns are no joke. Went through every trail through the thicket but no more blood.

What are you thinking,to far forward?

From: Will tell

I'm thinking I hit her a couple of inches below her heart right behind her front leg. The blood was bright red like muscle blood. I was on the ground and she was 20 yards away, my max distance. I got about 20 inches of penetration.

Well that sucks happens to all of us.

Brisket shot, plenty of blood and no deer. FYI, with a selfbow you can aim where the deer is, not where it will be after it ducks the string;-) They do not duck a selfbow. Now worries, she will heal fine and be no worse for wear.

Besides the advice that’s already been given, buy or borrow a machete. It will make a world of difference in that multi flora rose. In addition, the deer will start using the paths that you cut.

I want to hear the results of the tracking. How did you do Will? How did did you and your son do Pearl Drums?

From: PEARL DRUMS

We found my sons. It was a liver hit as I expected. Believe it or not that buck went away from the creek and headed for high ground. He went about 150 yards. Mine wasn't found. We tracked more blood farther than I ever have without finding a deer. We spent from about 1-5pm looking yesterday. Called up surrounding owners and asked for permission to search. A 90 acre standing corn field is a good hiding spot. It was obviously not a good hit. A bit high and forward. 20" of penetration. He was a dandy with huge hoof prints. I have to re-side a house all weekend, I need the time to regroup my gear and my mind, been a while since I wounded a critter. Still don't care for it. Stupid self bows anyway :)

Spent the afternoon looking but no more blood. I know I hit her low but thought I might of got some lung but no such luck. Shot her right behind her front leg, a couple of inches higher and would of got her.

Thanks for the updates guys. Sorry to hear of a couple hit and lost, but it happens to just about everyone Deer have a great healing ability, so hopefully they will survive to be shot at another day.

Walk the creeks/ponds in area (if any)slow. Your nose can pick them up too. Google earth is great to make sure you covered all spots... good luck!

IF she was ht right behind the leg, low in the chest, with 20 inches of penetration, how did it not break the arrow when she run? Not discounting what you say. But, an arrow out both sides within reach of those moving front legs means a broke arrow. God Bless

Hope you all find your deer, Jawge

I wondered the same thing, I've gone over that shot a hundred times and when I shot the arrow looked right on but it kicked, I thought I had a pass through but wonder now if I hit a twig or she moved and it hit too far back. She took off and ran into a little patch of Aspen. I could see her standing than I lost sight of her and thought she bedded down and died? When I tracked her to the Aspens she wasn't there. That's where I found the arrow. It had blood twenty inches up the shaft. The blood didn't have any bubbles like a lung hit and the arrow had no smell like a gut hit. It was bright red blood like muscle blood.. I tracked her out of the Aspens and found two spots where there was a lot of blood where she jumped a little creek and then just a few spots. When she got into the Multifloral rose patch I couldn't find any blood. Checked all trails going in and out of the thicket and went through but no luck.????
