i'm with Fullquiver, I would like to make sure it's ok to arrive on Thursday. it's been 3 or 4 years since my wife and I have been and we arrived on Thursday back then but it doesn't hurt to check.

From: Clydebow
Date: 31-Jan-18

We will be there as usual, and always arrive on Thursday. I don't think they want anyone to arrive before that.

From: BJN
Date: 31-Jan-18

No problem with Thursday arrivals. The gate will likely be closed on days prior to Thursday.

From: Sipsey River
Date: 31-Jan-18

Widow Sax.........I bought 2 of the shirts, and still have them. I wear them every year at Denton and a few other events.

From: r.grider
Date: 02-Feb-18

Thursday arrivals are fine. we will pull the lock from the gate, if its closed just reclose after you go through, but i'll take the lock to keep anyone from getting locked in or out. Id like to say you could arrive sooner, but would need to check on that. I suppose it would be alright, but if you are the only one there, and the gate is unlocked, it kind of makes you the caretaker. LOL. Not sure anyone is looking for that job ! If someone needs it bad enough I have room at my farm for several campers. Its about 10 miles from the shoot, but secluded, and quiet.

Who are the Vendors coming to the Fest?

From: r.grider
Date: 19-Feb-18

As usual I get many of the same PM's asking for details. Please folks, post your questions on here, it does two things, saves me from responding to a bunch of PM's on redundant questions, and keeps our thread up top, active and going. The more publicity, the more attendees, the more vendors. Vendors don't get too excited about driving long distances for dead threads. Camping is free but primitive, no showers, only porta johns, There is drinkable water on site, there is a food vendor, there are plenty of motels within 5-15 miles, as well as restauraunts from fast food, to fine dining, firewood is free, vendor setup is free, no need to call and ask, just come. One of this years improvements is some gravel in the big tent area.

From: gluetrap
Date: 19-Feb-18

what does it take to be a vendor?? I got about 14 bows and quivers n stuff and not interested in shooting the course.. could I be a vendor?....ron

From: Clydebow

Ron, See Randy's post above.

"vendor setup is free, no need to call and ask, just come."

From: Brian waters
Date: 19-Feb-18

Gluetrap hope ya make it. Id like to meet ya....and of course check out your for sale stuff.

From: r.grider
Date: 20-Feb-18

Gluetrap, yea, just come, any vendors will be wise to post on this thread that they are coming. Big show of vendors, attract big crowds, and vice versa. We do ask vendors to donate an item for raffle, which helps raise a little money for the club. All this money just goes back in to targets, and making the shoot even better next year.

From: gluetrap
Date: 20-Feb-18

my greatest fear is that I would leave with more than I brought lol

From: JHP
Date: 20-Feb-18

This is a great shoot! Got a group of about 8 that goes every year. We do our best to support the Vendors. Even the food vendors. Picked up a Mike Treadway longbow there a few years back. Range is right there and you can shoot lots of bows. I shot several before I decided on my Black Swamp II. Then I had to decide between 51# draw verses 46#. Decisions, decisions.

From: r.grider
Date: 27-Feb-18

Danel, gurranteed ! We usually have a huge turnout and lots of items for blanket trade, plus folks are always trading the whole weekend, in campground and such. This behavior is accepted and even encouraged. About the only rule is, be nice, and we have to my knowledge not had any infractions. It speaks volumes of the kind of people we have attending.

Welcome aboard Steve ! Yes, we still have a NASP class for kids, and youth. We have nott had great participation in it, i think most kids would just rather shoot a stick , but this has got to be about the kids . We will examine this year the turnouts, and decide if we may need to start consolidating classes that have low turnouts to keep from tossing so many trophies. Like combing girls and boys, or combing longbow and recurve, or maybe any type bow for the different age groups . This all hinges on feedback from the crowds . You cant always make everyone happy, but we will try to please the majority. I see little difference in scores in the kids class between genesis, recurve, and longbow, or youth either for that matter. It seems silly to buy 3 medals for 3 places, in 12 different classes, when the number of medals exceeds the number of kids we have in attendence. Not trying to be a tightwad, but we do let kids shoot free, and only $5 for youth. Its good for every kid to get something, but it turns into a participation award instead of a real trophy. A lot of them cannot even be there for the sunday presentation anyway. Which is another reason, so many different classes also drags out the awards ceremony. You people , the ones that attend definately are our input, you are the ones we want to please. Gives us your input for next year, we will listen.

The weather forecasters give us their VAST KNOWLEDGE, and many times they are off base.

I've hosted and been to many shoots where the forecast was horrible and the weather wasn't that bad at all.

I do, however, understand when we are looking to travel rather long distances, we do count on these forecasts to do our planning.

So, it is a "gamble" and I LOVE TO GAMBLE!!

Good luck with this event and I hope it turns out to be great. Too many folks work their tails off to provide for other to have a good time.

Just finished packing the truck and hooking up the camper. Should be there tomorrow before noon.

Last trip for this camper. Nancy talked me into a new one that we will pick up in a couple weeks.

Whatever Saturday brings, being outdoors shooting a bow is better than anything the office has to offer. Well, unless it's free Spalding's Donuts. See you Saturday.

Danel, I missed seeing you. I was there yesterday (Friday) and had to leave this morning to be back in Charleston to officiate a funeral this afternoon. I hope the weather gives you guys a break this afternoon. At least it was not as messy as earlier forecasts had it. Friday was a great day, and thanks to everyone who made it happen again.

Light snow off and on today with a little wind in the a.m. Cleared up later in the afternoon and the snow was gone. Shot the course a couple more times, and then had a great meal at the pot luck dinner. Bad weather never materialized! Had a great time!

Had a great time all weekend even with the bad weather. Met more great people and saw some friends from years past. Shot the range a couple times and sold several dozen of my custom wood arrows. Met one of my idols, Ron LaClair and enjoyed the whole weekend. It is a great event ran by wonderful people so if you've never been there try it next year.

Worst weather hit us right in the middle on Saturday, and was still quite bearable if people out and about was any indication. It was some frosty nights on campers for sure, waking up to light snow and frigid temps Saturday morning. We were down on attendance to about 250 registered shooters last count I heard, compared to last years 350. I was worried at the start we could come out in the red, but due to everyones generosity we came out in the good. Special thanks to Big Jim for donating a bow, other raffle items, and donations by the food vendor, and others. Some fellow even brought his granddaughter sunday and paid to shoot the course even though he only had time for 20 targets. Vendors always donate raffle items, people donated on food , and our hit guest speaker Ron Laclair was very generous and too darn cheap for his expenses. Guys like this preserve, and grow the sport ! In spite of all the work, I still managed to shoot every thing but the long shot. Shot the entire course with my 11 year old grandson, who insisted on shooting from the women's/youth stake instead of the cub stake, in spite of that, he still got 3rd ! We had a good time shooting aireals, and he trounced me on the smoker round. I lost a point on target 2, that's my excuse, and im sticking to it ! Plenty of hard working guys and gals worked there butts off all week, right up until Big Jim got packed up. I would name them off, but im scared I will forget a name. Everyone saw them. They do this for a T shirt, and a meal on Thursday night, and its not enough. Im thinking some special is due to them, and I'll ponder on how to do that. If we could it would be an all expense paid vacation in Hawaii, but our bank account cant handle that. Just be sure and shake their hands, and thank anyone you see, emptying garbage cans, cooking, setting targets, registering shooters, selling T shirts and raffle tickets, and any other menial dirty job that makes this happen. These folks don't even need to be told, they just jump on every chore, and get it done. We may not be the largest shoot, or largest club, but I dare say we have the most dedicated members of any archery club in the country, bar none ! Thanks again people, another great year !
