I would just appreciate some cooler weather. Once the does come into estrous, bucks get pretty stupid. Not completely stupid though.

I never looked into the moon phases too closely. I believe it works, but I simply hunt the last few days of October until our archery season ends here in PA usually around the Nov 15th give or take a few days. Just can't go wrong with those couple of weeks.

I have killed more bucks between 10 am and 2 pm than any other time of the day when they are looking for or chasing does.

Over the years, after reading about the possibility, I have first hand observed a correlation between deer movement and the position of the moon. I've watched this through out the year, not just hunting season. When the moon is overhead or underfoot deer move. Of course there are other factors, the moon phase being only one of them. First and last quarters, put the moon overhead or underfoot at either sunrise or sunset. A new moon overhead at midday, during the chasing or rut cycle, is ideal time to see deer move,IMHO.

They were moving for the first time ive seen this season. I took a shot and hit a deer in the shoulder. Three hours later no blood, no arrow and no deer.

I hunt when I can, majority of my deer kills have been between 0900 to 1300 hrs.

Should be good in combination of the cool weather and frost for better movement.

New moon is fast approaching. 9/10 broke, that was a fine gesture sharing that information with us, thanks! I AM taking tomorrow off but I will probably be painting the house mid day since that is why I'm doing it. Wish I could sneak out for an hour... This was moon and Venus yesterday morning when I came out to go to work. Dos mas dias..

Wouldn't a new moon usually be overhead at mid day? A new moon occurs when the sun is "behind" the moon and we can't see the "lit" side of the moon.
My best hunting is ALWAYS a full moon. The day of the full moon and especially a day or too before the deer are moving when the moon rises in the east. Also they move great at mid day then. Everyone complains about the full moon and even plan hunting trips to avoid it, for me I love the full moon time period - especially during the rut, and this coming one should be great, one of the best in years.

Dan, I totally agree! And yup, where the sun is on new moon day, you'll find the moon nearby.

When the sun is in "transit" is the moon "underfoot"?

The solar eclipse last month as a good way to visualize a 'new moon' position, directly in between earth and sun, all in line.

Remember this then: hoy es la luna nueva! And good luck to you. I hope I can get out there but I think I'll be painting the house on this last of the sunny and warm days probably. Sad...to miss out on this once a year event. May try to do the evening hunt, but noon time is when you suggested. Bumma.
