Season opened today here in Alabama. Went this morning, hopeful of some action. Had been seeing quite a few deer on the camera I had placed in the small woodlot behind my house. No action at all until 9:15, then here comes a nice big doe - followed by a spotted fawn! Guess she got bred really late. Well, I couldn't take the momma of a nursing fawn (actually saw the fawn nursing, though it was probably a 40 lb. deer), so I let them walk. Debated about going back this afternoon due to the heat, but I talked myself into going anyway. Saw the same doe and fawn, and again the doe presently me with an easy shot, and again I passed. Nothing else showed before dark. Hoping for some cooler weather and some deer under my stand other than a doe with a spotted fawn in tow...

Mosquitos really weren't bad. None in the morning, and in the afternoon it was a bit breezy so that kept em off till the wind layed right before dark - then a few started showing up. I lived and hunted in the Arkansas Delta for years, so I'm pretty immune to a few lil ole Alabama skeeters. Now those brown leghorns we had in Arkansas, that's a different deal. If you ain't eperienced rice field quantity and viciousness of mosquitos, you just ain't lived yet. Ha.
