Between the Martin Savannah and the Bear Au Sable, which would you choose. Between shootability, and lack of hand shock. Thanks for all opinions.

Don't make too big of a deal out of hand shock, just don't lock up the bow arm elbow and try to squeeze the resin out of the riser. i liked the Bear Patriot better than either one of the those. I would consider the Prairie Predator from Maddog first, unless you think you need a 30" draw. Seven Lakes Archery R/D is another excellent choice for the amount of money of a new Savannah.

Avoid anything with a well-known brand name.

Neither has hand shock, I've shot both of them and had a Savannah for awhile. If you match arrows with your bow and tune it well, it would be rare for any deflex/reflex design to have hand shock.

Have the savannah, never shot a Montana, I love my savannah and never experienced hand shock with it. Others speak well of the Montana.

I would pick the Martin if both were the same poundage I wanted. You should pick the one that fits into your comfy poundage range as you will be more accurate, both are capable.

I’d go with the HOWATT.
Buying brand new..... would have to shoot both and might end up with a Maddog

I owned all the bows jk listed with the exception of the madddog. I like the Au Sable better than any of the others. In fact I like it better than any other longbow I have shot, but it may not be for you. I don't think it or the Savanna gives up any thing in shootability or performance to a custom bow, although they may not be as pretty. Good luck in your search

If you are trying to stay with in a budget look at the Maddog Mutt. Nothing fancy just a great working tool, that you can count on.

Never shot the Bear sure its very nice. owned the Savanah and loved it very fast weighs nothing and is as pretty a bow imo as any. I sold it because I have big hand and fletching cut my hand no matter what I tried. Killed my first trad buck with it and a few does.

The old Savannah's are quick and quiet. I believe Mr. Hatfield set a flight record with one when he was developing it. I still have one along with several other Martins and Howatt's of his time period designing and testing for Martin and Howatt. Maybe he will check in here.>>>-----> Ken

Uh-oh! Better stop saying so many nice things about Mike, if he's starting to refer to himself in 3rd-person!
But at least not by name....
