I'm looking for a good source for bamboo limb building materials. I'm preparing to build my own bows and would appreciate any suggestions on a good source for custom wood for building bows.

Call Craig Ekin at Howard Hill Archery and see if he still has some for sale.

Wood is wood, outside of that when you're talking about building glass laminated bows. I actually like to go pick out my own and make my own lamiantions. They aren't nearly as special as some folks would lead you to believe.

Any of the rare or quality wood suppliers that you can find will have what you need. I've even bought good limb and riser material at various Woodcraft retail stores.

If you need just a small amount for a bow or two go to Lumber Liquidators and buy vertical bamboo baseboard by the piece. 6'X 3 1/2" X 5/8" plenty for two bows.

Yumi, grows his own, and nobody knows more about processing boo than Jaap. He wholesales to one or two places.

I buy a carton of Vertical grained bamboo flooring for around $80 to $100 and cut and grind my own lams. Check out quality flooring dealers, but make sure you get VERTICAL grained! Richard

If you think all bamboo is the same, look at the picture of Jaap I posted and notice how far apart the nodes are on the bow he is holding and the ones against the wall. Then look at your bamboo.

Howard Hill took great pains to find the right bamboo and traveled to the far east till he found it. Just saying?.

I used Jaaps bamboo on all the flight bows a few weeks ago that set new world records for english long bow. I have had no failures with it either.

Fly rod builders of old seemed to favor Tonkin bamboo. I don't fully buy into the "bamboo mystique" but then again I've never used it. I'm a skeptic willing to be convinced. :)

Thanks for the information I couldn't get back right away we had a fire roll through that took 1500 homes and ten people's lives with it. Missed us by 1/4 mile had my trailer packed and ready to roll.

Glad the fire missed you Rich. This is another bad one, talk to Marilyn at Rancho Neblina they've taken in some livestock and a family. To think 2 weeks ago we had a shoot on the ranch, things changed fast.
