I am building a bow for a young guy who wanted a cherry riser and flat grain elm limbs. I don't know if I like it or not. Doesn't matter it's his bow but what are your thoughts? Of course it will look a lot different once finished with clear.

That young man knows his woods! Excellent choices he made. Will be a darn good shooter that will last a lifetime. Great job done too!

Buiilt a riser a few years back out of cherry and hop-hornbeam. When we applied the finish I expected the grain in the cherry to pop and it did. It was beautiful! What surprised me is when the grain in the hop-hornbeam did as well. I think the bow you made will be lovely when finished.

Cherry had a way of surprising me. Lots of variation in color. This is curly cherry at that. Glad you guys like cherry, I do to just want sure as the bow is wrapping up that I like it as much as I thought I did. We will see

Oh yeah it looks great. When that cherry ages it'll be a different bow again :-) JF

I have cherry and maple lamps in a bow. Outstanding stuff. I like it so much I ordered another. Great looking bow. Rooty

That should finish into one nice bow. Elm, IMO can hold its own with bamboo or Yew for performance. Interested to see how the Cherry finishes out. I am looking at a clock I made from Cherry about 10 years ago. It is still more brownish than red. The table I made 5 years ago has started to turn "Cherry" in color except for one side I used a piece from the clock project. It has Putina but not redish.

You do a great job finishing your bows, so I have no doubt it will be stunning when finished. Really like the red elm limbs.

Rubbed finish on only the riser to seal the grain. I'm curious to see how much it darkens with age

Nice bow Brother!

But from an ole has been, if you are uncomfortable building something don't do it. The poundage though if I'm looking at it right she should be a fine bow

Awesome looking bow!

Well this is what the young man wanted his bow built with. I may advise differently next time. I think it would look nice with maple limbs, as a target bow or for 3d, but to light in color for hunting

Beautiful looking bow. Flat grain elm is still one of my favorite lams for the limbs. The first custom bow I had built was from Dick Robertson and at the time (late 80's) he recommended elm under clear glass for my longbow. The bow turned out beautiful and the elm blends into the surroundings like good camouflage. I'm sure the recipient of your bow will love it. Great job.

I don't know fellas I know it will oxidize but I'm not to excited about it.

That's well done. I think we too often worry about the wood choices. That looks great !
