Shot some 4 in feather fletched arrows this morning. Appears that I have a 40 yard point on.I guess thats good. Didnt know what most of you prefer fof point on.I need to really ck things out to make sure but looks like a 1 in crawl works at about 30. I think at 20 im probably about 1 1/4 or more.Is that a good crawl for most. Seems like my arrows just want to keep going as in up.If im right up under the arrow i shoot higher at 20 tthan 15.If i want to shorten my crawl what woul be a good way far as arrow or bow tuning. I dont want to face walk. Im liking b the crawl and strjng walking. Having fun.

I found some grip tape at lancaster. I thought it would be rubberized but its like sandpaper. Comes in 4 in square. A strip up the back of grip keeps my hand in place as it was sliding up the grip due to grip shape before.works great.

Is this for fun, hunting, 3D?

1 1/4" isn't a huge crawl. If you are interested in shooting field ranges, a 50m point on is pretty nice. I'm at 30 yards for hunting and about 50 yards on my Barebow.

Where are you anchoring now? You can lengthen your arrows to shorten your point on/crawl BUT the higher your anchor is, the less effect the arrow length will have.

You don't want to shorten your point on by increasing weight. That's a trick for 20 yard shooting. Sucks for distance.

You can also try raising your nock point. At extremes it can get weird.

I guess 40 is ok.Its mainly for 3D. Would like to shoot the same bow indoors on paper too.So maybe a longer arrow and a few more grains up front for indoors would work.

fwiw I'm shooting a 58# r/d longbow (one-piece beauty) with 360gr arrows getting approximately Crow's numbers. Entire use is 3-D, which around here means 20-45 yds for the most part. Fairly easy to estimate crawls, but I'm going to make more of a science of it (counting stitches). Also, will build some heavier arrows per Dude's comment about 20yds, just in case I run into some wimpy short-range 3-D event.

Sounds good. It's all based on your desired point on while keeping your tune good enough at the longer crawls.

In Barebow Field, their crawls are much longer at 20m because they will usually have a point on around 50m. But those same guys would not be shooting indoors using their 20m field crawls.

Dude-- interesting comment about how a higher anchor makes arrow length less significant as you perceive the sight picture. Ive been trying out a very high anchor and noticed that very thing yesterday. At high anchor i see less distance along the shaft if that makes sense.

Yep. I had to draw picture to beat it into my head. I was raising my anchor to get the point on down and THEN tried the longer arrow and wondered why it didn't make much difference.

I shot a very high anchor for years. Didnt realize how much it hindered my shooting and distance. I like the lower anchor and much more accurate at longer distance now.

Point on and crawl is a purely personal thing. Set it for what you like and the game you play. For those of us who don't shoot a deer over 20 yards a 20 yard point on is tough to beat. 3D maybe a 30-35 point on and a 15 to 20 crawl if legal. For field or long distance shooting longer point on is desirable.>>>----> Ken

I have 60y point on with 39# off the fingers, as I SW it doesn't really matter what the point on is, as I'm shooting IFAA and WA Field, 3D and Indoor rounds 60y suits me well.

Crow, just curious - what do you use that bow for? Competition? Hunting?

FWIW, my hunting bows normally have a point-on of around 37-45 yards. My outdoor target bows are usually point-on at 50 meters (55 yards).

It will be 3D,, and target shooting,, and just backyard fun.
