Grandson turns 4 today. Make this for him. 48" tip to tip. Pyramid limbs, tie on sinew nocks, deer rawhide grip, cork arrow rest, 6 strand b-50 string. No idea the poundage. Flings an arrow quite nicely. Definitely going to need adult supervision.

Nice job gramps. That bow will handle him for at least 3 years, maybe more. He can draw that bow 22-23" easily.

Ya Pearly I was pulling it back to 90 degree string angle just to make sure it could take it and was about 23-24 I'm guessing. Was tempted to throw a broad head on just to see what I could get for penetration. A blunt went through panelling when I overshot my bag lol.

Hickory is the best for kids and adults in a lot of cases. Healthy hickory simply doesn't break, they just slowly fold over, but its never violent. Great for kids because you know they wont get hurt if it does give up the ghost.

Ya batman I did, but in the man cave and it's a disaster already; not the first time the panelling has taken a hit so no harm done.

Yep I love hickory. I did have one blow many years ago at the cut in shelf. it was fairly violent. I loved that bow; was gonna be my elk hunter. Oh well live and learn!

Superb in both thought and deed.

I gave my grandson a Maddog pup, I was right there and the little bugger put an arrow on top of my neighbors house before i could stop him. i just had to blow my nose, and there went the sky shot. He is now shooting a Prairie Predator. My wife's favorite bow is a Lost Creek NAT, not a toy. I have given out a few hickory kid bows, none of them are toys, but they are sure fun to shoot. I have pignut hickory that I have killed a number of animals with myself. Never underestimate what a hickory bow can do.

15 years ago I made a hickory bamboo walnut. One hickory backing strip, one parallel bamboo strip, one 12" walnut longbow styled grip and fadeouts, 62" flat limb with about a three inch back set. The kid gave it to his younger brother, who went out and shot two rabbits in the grove, so they got him a landowner deer tag. He filled that out in the grove as well.

Will you be my Grandpa? I'm up for adoption.

Well now that you bring it up yankee I had reservations when I started this as he's one of 11 grandkids so I might be a full time bowyer after the b-d party lol.

Oops, I have one grandson and one granddaughter. I have been informed that she is also shooting now and that I need to finish those kid arrows that I fletched.

That is awesome! What a wonderful gift. Jawge

Thanks George, I appreciate that. He's into a lot of different things, but maybe I can sway him at this moldable age. His dad is a hunter/fisher so shouldn't be too hard.

Cubdrvr, that is a nice bow especially the tillering, looks fantastic.

Thanks Ron, but since it's pyramid it's pretty much same thickness the full length and I really didn't do any tillering. It was a strip I ripped years ago thinking I was going to back a cherry bow and never did. All I've ever done is board bows, mostly pyramid; I really like that style of limb.
