Walking along a small no name stream that runs right through the middle of town today. I look down and find this beauty. I still can't believe it. A full groove axe! Needless to say I was very excited about my find.;-)Anybody else ever find one of these?

That full grove axe, WOW! If only it could talk! What stories it could tell. Year made. By who. Tribe or culture name. Where did the stone come from? What adventures did it have? Did it kill? Game? Humans? Before it was lost in the stream, how many different individuals owned it? Etc., etc.....imagine the stories contained in that stone. Priceless. Great find.

Incredible find, good eye! Since you asked, It seems like maybe two others have found almost identical ones that they posted pics of on here in the last couple years. What a rare treasure!

Nice find! I found this one around 1971 on a bluff a mile or so south of the Hwy 40 Missouri River bridge while stump at Weldon Springs near St. Louis.

Rare finds, indeed. I have found fewer than a dozen in 50 years of searching. Most are Early to Middle Woodland Culture. The examples shown are not weapons or ceremonial. They are everyday tools, much like the axes we use today. Axes or hammers. The time frame is about 800 to 1,500 BP. Certainly artifacts to treasure.

That's a great find. Earlier this spring I found this along a stream bed in southern Minnesota but I wasn't sure if it was real or not but I picked it up anyway. I would appreciate any info if you have comments.

TGbow, They were called The Lenni-Lenape Which mean the Original people or Grandfathers. Most other tribes considered them to be the most Ancient tribe of the North East. Clovis points have been found in New Jersey. I'd like to find one of those!
