Here is the bow I'll be toting this fall. I've never used/hunted a bow quiver on a self bow, but I am going to try it this year.

The bow is osage and the arrows are parallel cedars. I will glue some single bevel Grizzly heads on when we get closer.

Lets see your self bow rigs for this fall.

That there is great hunting bow.

I have a snakey osage bow and a yew English longbow started and hope to hunt with them this year, but I don't know if I'll get them done in time. I have about eight weeks until my vacation starts... but lots to do besides make bows.

Super Nice Pearl D, Nice grain, I like the grip, by looking at that upper limb, I bet it was a pain to get tillered.

Mine is not finished, but will be in a month, will post a photo anyway later today.

i'll probably go with this hickory selfie. My arrows will be wild rose shafts tipped with trade points carried in a plains style quiver. Jawge

Great looking hickory stick Jawgey poo. Jon, I like that bottom one best.

Thanks, PD. Beautiful bows, PD and John. Nice to see I am not the only one hunting with a selfie. Great thread. Jawge

Beautiful bow Chris! What is the brace height running on that bow, around 7" ?

From: woodshavins
Date: 16-Aug-17

May take this one out at least a few times this year. 66", #51@28

From: PEARL DRUMS
Date: 16-Aug-17

Yup, 6-7" is pretty normal for most of what I build. The more reflex in the limbs the lower I brace them. The more straight the limbs the higher I brace. Power comes from string tension at brace and I try to get as much string tension as I can. Its a fun balancing act, I love it when I get it right and the bow just jumps to life.

From: PEARL DRUMS
Date: 16-Aug-17

That's a beauty Aaron. You build it?

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 16-Aug-17

longbow: My wife has one of Pearlies bows and she can shoot lights out with that thing. She will be hunting with it this fall.

I agree Pearl. The osage and iron wood bows have clubby handles but I am new to this bow building although the very first bow I made is the bottom one.

I will also be using stone points on my arrows.

Yes Chris. This spring. Really clean piece of Osage from MIssouri.

From: PEARL DRUMS
Date: 16-Aug-17

That's a perfect bow right there. Bet it shoots lights out.

From: woodshavins
Date: 16-Aug-17

It does shoot nice. The tips are a little overbuilt. Been meaning to narrow them a hair more. They're never "perfect". That's why we keep makin em;-)

From: PEARL DRUMS
Date: 16-Aug-17

I've come to realize tip size, within reason, plays no role. 1/4" wide will shoot just like 5/8" wide. Its all about tiller and moore importantly, balance in the bow hand.

I concur.

Simple Osage selfbow. 66" nock to nock, 60@28, one I built in April. I always get fired up to build myself a bow right before the Classic.

Self bows almost glow. There is just something alive and individual about them. Love it, love it love it.

Hey bubby you tree hugging California hippy. We have a lots of deer and free bedrooms in central Michigan. Probably thee coolest state in the 50.

I gotta get a me self bow sometime before I kick.

From: Arvin

All I can say is the deer might ought to be Leary this season. Great bows guys. I have not decided yet. Could be one of those flight bows or my old faithful bow I've been hunting with the last three years. My two piece. Arvin

Mine is not finished, but should be done in the middle of September,

my first hickory bow, stave so graciously donated by Jeff Durnell.

I had a lot of growing pains, but the folks here helped me through.

I have a half dozen Douglas Fir arrows I am also making for it.

Hope to get 45 to 50lbs. @28" it's 68" from nock to nock, I am going to put deer bone on the tips.

That wood is so white it's difficult getting good photo's.

Great bows folks, I wish I had this interest in selfies a long time ago.

From: RonG
Date: 16-Aug-17

I forgot to mention that Mountain Man donated the bone for the tips, so many generous folks, I will pass forward.

Same as last year, seems I keep giving my new ones away, but theses still work just fine. Some great looking sticks posted, very nice work. Pappy

From: RonG

J.R. Nice quiver and arrows also.

From: PEARL DRUMS
Date: 17-Aug-17

Kurt, that bow pulls about 49-50# at just a fuzz over 28". I shoot 52-54# arrows cut 29" BOP with 125 grain tips. Absolute lasers off that bow.

Getting closer with that hick stick Ron. Don't be afraid to round that handle off, front and back. That 4" of handle will never bend so you don't have to worry about the back in that area.

From: RonG
Date: 17-Aug-17

Thanks PD, I need to stain it so you can see it, looks like a ghost...LOL!

Same one as last year. Homemade osage orange from a stave I cut near Cadiz Ohio in 2002. "Lightning Crow" 60# @ 28", 675 grain Surewood douglass fir arrow. It shoots 166 fps on my chrony.
