I have my 2nd bow I built that Ive been shooting with a fastflight string, but its loud. I want to build a Dacron B50 string for it but I was curious how many strands, the other three bows Ive built ar around 50 lb and Ive built 14 strand strings. It seems sufficient.

My bow Im shooting is 68# and Im sure itll stretch the piss out of the string with it being B50...

Is 16 good or too much?

No reason for it to be loud with a FF string. You need a better string. What kind of FF? There are many that will work, but some are more problematic than others as far as type of noise. Harmonics are different with low stretch.

If you decide on Dacron, get a 15 strand flemish twist, or a 16 strand endless loop. You could probably get away with 14 strands but Dacron will cut easier than low stretch so safety would rule the day.

By the way, a well made Dacron string won't stretch all that much if done properly. You would be wise to use the 4" shorter though for Dacron. Once the stretch is done, it will be fine.

I prestretch my B50 strings by handing #70 pounds of free weight plates on it overnight. No stretch next day, and none thereafter.

I never thought of pre-stretching the bow strings. I build my own flemish twist strings.

George, I don't know what make of fast flight, my buddy Jimmy of Mahantango bows gave it to me for tillering.
