Andy man, this is exactly how I received it. I can't even shoot it because the string won't stay set in the nock. First off I ordered a custom 45 lb bow. Joel sends me a 55lb bow . I sent it back, he trapped the limbs , tried refinishing it 2 times, and sent it to me this way. The backset has increased, and it looks like s---. And it scales 50 lbs on my tillering tree scale. I took it to a 3rd party Archery shop to test the weight. The 3rd party's bow scale read exactly 49 lbs. I had to order a skinny string from Stilldub to be able to brace the bow and test the weight. Joel's 2 strings he sent me , one is 3 inches to short, the 2nd string is so thick it falls over the nocks. See pic above. I don't want to send it back for a 3rd attempt. I have been patient enough. Joel owes me a new 45 lb bow that shoots, and looks acceptable . No orange peal or runs. Or a refund. Period. I bought the JET longbow because I was influenced by your and JimPic bows. I should have continued discussions with Dave Wallace. But Joel convinced me he makes the best longbows out there, he said even Dave Wallace is using his bows. Please PM for my number if you would like to discuss. Tracker7 Dave

I have given Joel months to correct the issue, and avoided going public with this. The extreme irony is when he returned my bow the second time he shipped me someone's else's bow. Being the person I am. I called him immediately for the correct name and address, and shipped it to the gentleman in New Mexico...Jim I think was his name. I also reinforced the bow limb tips with old bicycle inner tube, because like my bow the tips had worn thru the packing and the finish was rubbing thru to the wood. I never even asked for shipping reimbursement . Joel can't even ship a bow.

I ordered a Jet Bison deluxe from Joel and when I got it the bow looked like he sprayed with grit. I think he sprayed the gloss coat in his drive way on a windy day. Sent the bow back and he did correct the issue some what. The grip wrap had glue finger prints on it and he cut the seem blind folded. He also said that he would pay for the shipping. Never happened. At that point I just cut my losses and moved on.Joel quality control is lacking for sure.I replaced the leather grip and laced it (first time)and it turned out okay.

Cant answer for him or his business, but, when you get too big for your britches you have to get help elsewhere and that's where your personal quality standards are easily compromised. The real issue here is the total lack of communication or resolution. S**t happens, but a man makes it right when it does happen, period.

Buck dancer, Pearl Drums...when I sent the bow back so Joe could correct the missed weight (10lbs)...he shipped another customers bow to me by mistake. It was a beautiful Safari...and I told him so when I offered to forward the bow to the correct owner. Also told him since you had to trap limbs and retiller, let's improve the finish....what you see is what I got. An ugly bow that will not hold His own string. Jimpics endorsement of Jet bows is what convinced me I made the right choice. However, my story is not a nice outcome. Those of you who doubt my honesty or integrity, PM me , I'll be glad to send you all the picks. This leather wall bow site is the last place I wanted to post complaints at. Joe won't man up...so what else do I do? Many folks who share the same damn outcome as me...gave up. I won't tap out. I want a new bow ...@ 45 lbs...not a rework. Or I'd really just like a refund.

LORDY....Some awfully beautiful bows in this thread.
Thanks all for posting them for the rest of us to enjoy.
I have a Dave Johnson in RED CEDAR with white and black glass that's really pretty.
Right now I am thinking VERY HARD about getting a Henck longbow. They look really good and from what I read, they shoot great too. He builds bows in the Schulz style. I don't really know what that means or how it would be different than the Hill bows that are pictured here or the Johnson longbow I have sitting in the corner.
Anyway, GORGEOUS stuff guys and gals.

Here's my 70" 55" @ 28" Howard Hill Big Five. From the serial number it was made by Tim Meigs. Don't know the date, but considering the low number, (055), it was likely between 1977-1980. He made bows for them from 1977-1992. I bought it used in 1984. I changed the grip leather to rough out pigskin.

To figure grains per inch one divides the over arrow weight by length, which in my case it's 495 grs.arrow weight divided by length 27.5 bop which is 18 grs. per inch. Seems like a lot. So I'm I using the right formula? Using Ace 145 grs. heads with Sure wood douglas fur shafts.

That's no crack, that's a grease spot on the band of my underwear. That is what happens when one is working on a '76 BMW and his pants goes down every time one bends over. Paintin' pants work on the BMW pants, all the same, they all fall down. I hate belts, I need to invent a belt loop suspender rig.

Yup he sure did. I wish that one wasn’t so heavy because it had a beautiful green glass belly and back. I’d like to find a zebra around 58-65lbs with a comfortable grip. The last few zebras I had all had grips suitable for Sasquatch. This tangredi that louie made fit perfect but it was around 75-80lbs if I remember.

DEERFLY - WTH IS YOUR PROBLEM? Plenty of guys on here showing ASL bows other than Hill's and I'm sure they think they're just as good or better than a Hill. WTH did ya jump all over caboo for because he thinks his Big River is as good as any? John does build great bows! The language doesn't bother me as much as the attitude! This SHOULD BE a mannerly site. You apparently have none! Maybe ya been listening to certain politicians too much! Or maybe you're the one with the little unit!

Herb Meland (pronghorn) brought this model (Teton) back last year. It has around an inch or so backset and it’s just beautifully built. It’s fast and just a pleasure to shoot. Herb and steve turays “american” are my top two shooters that I’ve owned hill style wise.
