Anyone use this stuff for backing a bow? I have some that is rated at 70 lbs, which I assume is tensile strength. Titebond OK with it ?

I'm pretty sure it's waxed. I wouldn't expect it to stick. And even if it wasn't waxed, how much does it stretch? And even if it did stick, synthetic sinew won't have the qualities inherent to bow making that real sinew does. Real sinew grows slightly as it rehydrates in hide glue... then as it dries, it shrinks. We use this to our advantage. If it didn't have those qualities, like synthetic stuff wont, it's wouldn't nearly be worth doing. In that case, I'd sooner change direction and use rawhide, but the best course of action depends on what you're trying to accomplish by backing this bow.

By the way, you can get more deer tendons that you can use if you ask your local deer processors to save the deer's lower legs for you during rifle season.

It's probably nylon. There are better choices like real sinew, rawhide, linen, silk and burlap...in that order. My site has info. http://traditionalarchery101.com Jawge

I use it for all kinds of things but never backed a bow with it. I use it to mount stone heads on my cedar arrows. Works better if you split it.

Wax, and don't shrink so it won't work for the intended purpose. It is great to tie and sew any thing else.>>>---> Ken

Thanks for the input. I suppose considering using a synthetic in the first place is contrary to the end goal. I have some rawhide, so will go that route. One question though : Is titebond OK or is hide glue the way to go with rawhide ? Jawge: Thanks for the address for your website. Looks like a lot of good info there.

It's worthless for backing. The ONLY exception would be MAYBE if you pulled the bow into sever reflex, and then added it. Natural sinew and hide glue shrink, so they create the reflex as they dry.

Artificial sinew has a tremedous amount of stretch per strand.

You'd be far better off with soemthing like solk, linen, something like that.

Yes, you can use T2 on rawhide, osage. Jawge
