I wonder for the price if you can order with out the compass and quiver bushings

From: Jason D
Date: 12-Jul-17

Ordered one yesterday! :-))

$1,600!!!

I'll be posting some of my collection on eBay to pay for it.

Wife should be happy as I'm trading out several bows out of the house for this single one! LOL!

I assumed it comes with the compass but hadn't considered that. Will need to confirm with my dealer.

J.

Sure is pretty. Anyone know why the release of a limited addition bow? Any significant time for Bear archery?

-Bones

From: RymanCat
Date: 12-Jul-17

Pretty not sure if I would want one rather have my green stripe that's brand new or get my type I fixed and shoot that riser.

Sure looks fine though and love the gloss. Wondering what the additions are didn't get clarification on that in this thread unless I missed it?

Far as I know, only the woods used is the difference. Plus you get a matching bow case that is also serial numbered to match. They are going to be making four limited edition bows in total, different models each year. If you buy this one you get 'first right' at the next three models in the same serial number. Not required to buy, but you get first chance at it. I am not positive what the future models will be. 3Rivers will be turning them online for pre-order sign up soon (hoping today). No one has serial numbers till next week at the earliest.

It will come with a scrimshawed coin, rather than the brass coin. No "customizatios" will be allowed, according to Bear. Other than you can choose the weight. It is a B riser with #1 limbs, I believe, making a 60" bow. Weights of 40, 45, 50 and 55 offered, to the best of my knowledge.

Limited edition not addition which is arithmetic

From: Flygirl

Great looking bow.Hope that Bear has one on display in Denton Hill.Really great to see the Bear Co. Coming out with this bow.Think there takedown is still the neatest bow ever.

It looks stunning so I placed my order @ Big Jim.

From: camodave

Notice the EXP 002 serial number in the pic. I wonder if they changed something after making EXP 001. EXP bows have always been of interest to collectors. I doubt if any of the current ones will ever be for sale.

DDave

From: stick33
Date: 12-Jul-17

I think EXP 001 was a donation bow for the Compton shoot. You don't see them come up for sale too often, except for the less desirable models.

From: sheepdogreno

Beautiful bow! If I could afford it and that's a big If I would just mess it up by shooting it and hunting with it...I don't buy something with plans of not using it that's not how my system functions hahahahaha

Edition, not addition. Nice looking bow but I could never use it. Wouldn't want to scratch it.

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 12-Jul-17

I hope they do well but as collectors investments go I'd choose something else.People can't get their money back out of the Signature goldlatches and the earlier Commemoratives flopped royally.Buy one to use! And I'm a Bear guy.

From: Barber
Date: 12-Jul-17

Yes I know edition not addition ! Saw that after my post was already on line. Have to love smart phones! Y'all know what it was suppose to be .

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 12-Jul-17

I remember telling Frank Scott I was hoping the third commemorative bow was going to be a takedown but after the SK and Montana commemoratives didnt sell well the decision was made for the third one to be the SM.

From: Pa Steve
Date: 12-Jul-17

That is one beautiful bow!!! Would love to own one but my bank account thinks differently. Possibly one of the 59ers as that is my favorite model of Bear bows.

From: Buckdancer
Date: 12-Jul-17

From: cfokken
Date: 12-Jul-17

Bear will have one on display at ETAR The donated bows for Pope and Young and Compton were not any EXP. Bear specifically made these bows for these organizations. They will have an A handle, Kodiak, and Super Kodiak as the other three.

I have a bunch on order of course and am taking pre orders too. They are going to be sharp!!

in this order B and #1S A and #3s 59's SuperK

That is the deal unless for some reason they decide to change down the road, but then I would have to change the way I'm cutting the wood. Thanks, BigJim

From: David Mitchell
Date: 13-Jul-17

Wonder if they will finally put a decent string on a bow that expensive. They need to do much better on their strings.

From: goldentrout_one
Date: 13-Jul-17

How much $$ ????

From: jeff w
Date: 13-Jul-17

I would like to have one just because I like it (like all Bear TD's). As far as an investment-I have never bought a bow thinking I would resale it later. I buy my archery equipment to enjoy, I really don't care what the 'market' does.

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 13-Jul-17

If you buy one through Big Jim you can request a better string from him. Bowyers are in the bow business, that's why there are so many string makers around. It's good for the string makers.

From: lonfitz
Date: 13-Jul-17

I never could understand why they put the compass there in the first place. It was not on the original in 1969.They have even changed the placement of the Bear decals also.

From: JT
Date: 13-Jul-17

How many folks would shoot it, or even take it out of the box?????

From: RJH1
Date: 13-Jul-17

JT, if bought it, it would only be to shoot. That said, I it is a little more than I am willing to spend. If it was $1200 and a 64" bow, I am pretty sure I would be in though:-)

From: fdp
Date: 13-Jul-17

Not a bad looking bow, but I would never pay that for one.

From: Scooby-doo
Date: 13-Jul-17

If ya buy one, hunt it and hunt it hard. That is what they are for. I have an LC Smith that I was told over 30 years ago was worth a fortune, guess what it is pretty well worn now and not as pretty but I used it for what it was intended, too kill stuff! Shawn

From: 303elk
Date: 13-Jul-17

I have the series of FB Commerative all the same S/N L/H 50# the first one is signed by FRANK SCOTT , they are in the original box never been strung, anybody know what they are worth ?

From: Cameron Root
Date: 13-Jul-17

Nice wood. Rooty

From: Bud B.
Date: 13-Jul-17

303elk, those seemingly did not go over as well as the Signature TDs from the early 80s. Value unknown.

Shoot me a pm. I know someone who might know an opinion on the value.

If you buy the B and #1s this year, you have first right to refuse the A and #3 of the same serial number next year and so on. So by buying both, you can mix and match the limbs how you wish. BigJim

303Elk they are currently not worth what we paid for them...

From: cobra
Date: 17-Jul-17

It is too pretty and too pricey to take into the woods and treat like any other hunting bow. And, like all other Commemoratives, it will probably never be a good investment

From: Bud B.
Date: 31-Jul-17

Bumping for JT....

From: Greg D
Date: 31-Jul-17

Any chance you could just order a riser? I would want longer limbs.

From: stick33
Date: 31-Jul-17

Bows in general are poor investments compared to the return on other investments. Even in today's poor used bow market, the Signature gold latch original $995 would equate to $2,500 in today's dollar. They've been selling in the $3500-$4500 range as of late. I don't see this new bow being nearly desirable nor profitable. But that's not what many of us care about when buying a bow.

From: GLF
Date: 31-Jul-17

The signatures never sold or gained value for the few that did sell. I bought the FB commemorative (Kodiak) and the Montana commemorative for 500 each and sold em for 600 when I started seeing alot for sale. I got lucky. Gotta admit the Montana was gorgeous tho. I wouldn't pay an extra 800 bucks for a different wood choice so this ones a no go for me.

From: cacciatore Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member
Date: 31-Jul-17

A bow isn't for investment but dreams for the mind,a hunting buddy, a lover,it makes food for the table and stories to tell to your friend. If you don't understand that I ain't sure you can be. Good bowhunter. IMHO.

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 31-Jul-17

Well they sell "Commemoratives" specifically to market the "collectors".I'm done buying bows for investment and agree they should be used.

From: Bowdoc
Date: 31-Jul-17

I was told this A.M. they will NOT have compass or bushings unless you want them bd

From: David McLendon
Date: 31-Jul-17

Pretty, but it would have to hunt if I owned it, and that's a lot of $ for a limited run production bow that will most likely not appreciate. I'd rather find another older A riser, and I already have a recurve with Macassar riser and Tiger Myrtle limbs that is a proven killing machine.

From: Jason D
Date: 07-Aug-17

I'm gonna shoot/hunt the heck outta mine! I may even grind down/customer the grip (sacralige!) refinish the whole riser!

I invest money in mutual funds. They tend to do a LOT better than bows!

The bows aren't going out according to the number you got, but to how the orders were filled.

In other words, number 160 might actually get built before 74 if 160 was sold first.

And yes, we still have a few numbers left.

Thanks, BigJim

I don't think I will be able to afford one; but I have to say I am disappointed at the very limited weight range. 60# at 28 inches is the sweet spot. The fulcrum after which you start experiencing deminished returns. Because I too will hunt with it.I will never but a bow just to display it.

My conversation with Bear about the LE TDs:

No compass. No bushings. I am guessing the production manager is Mr. Neil Byce.

From: Nalajr
Date: 14-Dec-17

I have wanted a Bear TD ever since seeing the Rosewood model on the cover of a Bear Trad Archery Catalog over 25 years ago. I've never had one though. I am promising myself to get a Bear TD some time soon. Probably be a used one though.

As for this new Limited bow. I think this one might be prettier than the Rosewood version I fell in love with. LORD have Mercy this bow is gorgeous! I love it! I would WANT the Compass on mine if I were getting one. Oh and one more thing, if I were to get one, I would get it to SHOOT and HUNT with. I would have no interest in buying a bow to sit in a box in my closet.

CONGRATS to you guys that got yours and for those that received them, your Christmas came early!

Well fellas, here is the thing.. It really doesn't matter what they offer, there is no way they will be able to please everyone unless they set up a call center to handle every little detail... and that my friend is what they call "custom"

There are already very few posts on this bow that don't contain complaints about price yet everything about it costs more. The materials are 5 times more expensive than what's in there normal TD and it comes with a fancy case. Plus it is limited and requires much more of there time.

The whole point of them offering it is for promotion.

If you have to have inserts for a quiver... I personally think it is the absolutely worst quiver mounting method available (personal opinion mind you, but the one I value the most) Install them, or have them installed by a pro.. $20 or $30 bucks.

If you want a compass, put one in... about the same price. No brainer.

I'm on my way down to Bear today to pick up a bunch of bows I just bought (245 that is) so stay tuned for further sale posts. Anyway, I will pump them for info if they will give it up.

From: Frisky
Date: 28-Apr-18

I've been thinking- What good is a bow if you don't shoot it? What good is the collector value when you're dead? To me, the beauty is in a bent bow. That's why the look of a longbow, at full draw, appeals to me. I'm shooting my Bear TD and hunting with it. I'd do the same if it was the new limited edition. I love that earlier (2007?) limited edition too! I think people are going to love these bows, once they get the bugs out, as the new limbs are really good shooting!

I never had a Bear takedown although I have dozens of vintage Bear one piece bows and love them. I love macassar and when I saw this bow I was very tempted... but resisted. One reason is I would rather have a 64" bow than a 60" bow. Another is that I like one piece bows more than takedowns.

However, last week I ordered one of the few left.

Why? I just bought a used Bear takedown with Brandon Stahl #3 limbs on an A riser. Not b/c it's a Bear takedown, but b/c it came with Stahl limbs. I'm not a fan of the riser so I was looking around for a B riser that could look good w/the Stahl limbs. I realized that for the price of a nice vintage riser I could buy this new macassar bow... that is way more beautiful. And put the Stahl limbs on it to get the 64" bow I want. I might even sell the #1 limbs that comes with it. Or not!

I also wanted to be in line for a macassar Kodiak. That's what I want the most.

I only buy or keep bows I shoot and this will be no exception. Most of my bows are also beautiful and that's important to me when shooting them. I shoot beautiful bows better! I think most people do even if they won't admit it. Beauty enhances mood which improves performance. If you don't feel that way and if you think a bow is just a tool go ahead and get a mag riser and paint it camo. Or put a bag over your bow and shoot it. To use a crude sexual analogy.

Also, to put it into perspective, how beautiful do you think the 59 Kodiaks were to people when they first came out? Gorgeous all Brazilian rosewood risers that had never been seen before in a Bear bow. Before that what did they have? Maple. The beauty of those 59 and later Kodiaks didn't stop people from buying them or using them, did it? So why should it keep people from getting and using a similar level of upgrade in beauty in a new Bear bow? I can understand not getting one b/c of the price, but b/c it's so beautiful? Come on! If you were back in 1959 would you have said the same about the new Kodiaks? Well... maybe some would! But not me.

That's not a birthmark by the way, Just a wider stripe in the Macassar. The coloration in Macassar varies widely from nearly black to very light cinnamon with dark brown to black stripes.

The figure in the bubinga veneers will vary slightly as well. It is all waterfall bubinga and there are no pieces that I can recall that had a bit of sap in them... well, there might be 4 sets that had some sap :) I can't disclose who is getting those 4, but he might of had something to do with cutting them. :>

Unlikely a lot of Bear customers out there, My favorite bows are the ones with birthmarks. All the rest look exactly like the last one, well except those with exotic wood.

Cacciatore, I don't receive bows weekly. I get a couple, then a wait. Bear has lots of other things going on as well as the limited editions.

I know it's frustrating, but they are juggling all there orders as well as the LE bows. I know exactly how they feel. My customers that have ordered bows from me have been waiting in excess of 14 months. Not because I'm out fishing, but I have many things going on.. just like Bear.

Bear is just as concerned about there customers as I am about mine. I just sent another load of veneers and limb buts to them last week as a matter of fact.. but they aren't waiting on me!

Frisky has it, Use it, it's worthless unless you do. If you buy it for an investment then you may need to get into something else.

I had a Howard Hill limited edition only 50 made, I didn't shoot it much until I talked to Craig at HH archery then realized this was a usable bow even though it was flawless and gorgeous had gold inlays and the whole works.

Looks aren't everything, if it performs as well as it looks then you have a real beauty that you will admire, use and it will return your investment many times over.

kginrick, bear has made changes to the glass and re made 150 sets of limbs. The new glass is not perfect, but it is much better. It's the same glass that I currently use and even though bowyers around the world are claiming perfection, I think they need glasses. It is however the best looking glass I've seen in 10 or more years.

I have at least 1 and maybe a couple in stock for sale right now!

I also have a couple of available spots that recently opened up. See, in the beginning we didn't take deposits!

Thanks, BigJim
