Don't forget to grab a stave and head to Marshall, Mo. July 20-22 for this years MoJam! There are always lots of bowyers on site to help everyone interested in learning to make a selfbow, arrows, string, or anything else needed to complete your primitive archery addiction. It's free and there is plenty of room for everyone that wants to camp. They have added several new events this year, and will still have the long shoot, clout shoot, 3D range, shooting range, huge potluck dinner, and outstanding auction. There's contact information on the Marshall Bowhunters Facebook page. It might be warm... but there's always plenty of FREE ice!

Will be there this year for sure. Going to camp next to Loyd. Next to the johns ??.

From: Gifford
Date: 08-Jul-17

Glad to hear it Butch. Won't be long now.

From: fdp
Date: 08-Jul-17

Dang. I'll be in South Texas that weekend.

From: badger
Date: 08-Jul-17

What is the long shoot?

From: BowAholic
Date: 08-Jul-17

it has been an elk at about 125 yards the past few years. A boy hit it in the 10 ring last year on his first shot... then hit it again on his 2nd shot. It was amazing to watch. The clout shoot is still my favorite. :) You need to come back sometime Steve! Sal has a couple of new children keeping him home this year, but maybe Rich or John would be interested in coming too.

From: Salvador 06
Date: 09-Jul-17

Yeah, Sal will be busy for a while.

Have fun guys, wish I was there.

From: BowAholic
Date: 09-Jul-17

we will miss you Sal! I will always take my Sal Quiver to display... you are responsible for MANY quivers my friend... :) and your arrows aren't bad either... LOL. One day maybe you will make me a bow to complete the set.

From: Gifford
Date: 09-Jul-17

Badger-you ought to try to make it again, the 20th anniversary is coming up in a couple years.

Hey Sal, sorry your busy, two young 'uns can do that to a fella. How's the grey hairs coming along?

Your Atl-Atl set and the quiver/arrow set make every MoJAM. Those arrows are simply great.

I hate being without a vehicle! I could have actually gotten the time off work for this, this year. Grrrrrrr

From: BowAholic
Date: 09-Jul-17

Curtiss Cardinal- maybe you can hitch a ride... lots of guys travel together to get there... or do an extended 'test drive'... :)

From: George Tsoukalas
Date: 09-Jul-17

I drove out 2003. 1500 mile trip. Met a lot of good folks. Had a great time. I did a demo on hand planing shafts. Great fun. Jawge

From: ButchMo
Date: 09-Jul-17

Jawge I remember you being there. Pretty much camp across from me.

From: Terry Lightle Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Me and Sheila will get our trailer there Friday midmorning. Terry

From: BowAholic
Date: 10-Jul-17

dang Jawge, I was there that year...along with thousands of others... sorry I didn't get a proper introduction. It would have been great to visit with you in person. Come back and we can remedy that... :)

From: BuzAL
Date: 10-Jul-17

Packing up last time I was there, seven o'clock Sunday morning: radio weatherman said temp was 89', heat index 105! Didn't even know that was possible!

I've been hoping hard that y'all would move the date. But I will be back someday...

Still have one of Tim's hickory pyramids. 161 fps outa #47 (that day).

From: George Tsoukalas
Date: 10-Jul-17

Sorry we missed each other BowAcholic and Butch.

I still remember how hot and humid MO was back then. Sat under a tree and drank water until evening LOL.

I did Basic and AIT at Ft Leonard Wood during July-October of '72 but I was a lot younger then. Still hot and humid though:)

It is the same weekend as the IBO we host, but this is our last years to host it and Also I retire in Sept. so I hope to finely make it out next year, been on my bucket list for a long time, it is legendary for us self bow guys. Pappy

Ya'll have fun and take some pictures.

From: Gifford
Date: 11-Jul-17

Buz, that first one was amazing.

I still have the osage ELB I made a couple years earlier and it was tested by the fellas.

I got two of Tim Baker's bows he brought with them. I kept the spalted pecan one and gifted the maple pyramid one to Sal.

I likely won't forget the post when Keith said 'I've got a place we can do it'.

"oh you guys"... :) It won't be long now! I just finished putting points on my new clout shoot arrows... while I was brewing some liquid refreshment. :) Dan, you are the man! See you in a little over a week...

From: BuzAL
Date: 11-Jul-17

Back at the first one, just before the clout final round the target got moved back even further. My bow-building skills were such that Will-MO quickly made up a new rule when he saw me trying to trim down my feathers. Couldn't quite make it to that last target. :-)

And Jim Hamm's slow bow. LOL! That was funny!

From: BowAholic
Date: 12-Jul-17

Great memories for sure... the Clout shoot is always one of my favorite events. There's nothing quite like seeing a line of archers all releasing their arrows at one time! One of my favorite shoot-offs was the year that we had to get behind a big tree/bush that blocked our view of the target...so we had to shoot way high to clear that tree and do it without being able to see the target too...

From: Gifford
Date: 12-Jul-17

Lenny posted over on PA, he'll be there with heaping load of osage splits, staves and billets.

Just one week to go. This time next week I have the shade screen up and digging into the cooler. Good Lord Willing.

My son's favorite MOJAM memory is of frog-hunting in the creek with one of y'all's son. Was he yours? I think it was during the first year.

When they came up outa that creek their arrows were beat down to about 14" long! They had several "strung" on a stick.

From: BowAholic
Date: 13-Jul-17

counting the days for sure... spending a little more time each day getting overheated and cooling off with liquid amber... baby steps... :) I am thinking about making some sort of portable truck mounted tillering tree for camp... nothing like welding when it's 93 to get yourself acclimated for Mo. weather... LOL

From: Gifford
Date: 13-Jul-17

Yep, she's getting 'warmer' glad I'm not visiting the in-laws in Phoenix. The pups indicated that they didn't need a long walk this a.m. so we headed home after a couple miles. Both are now sleeping under the a/c.

Good going Bob, that's going to minimize trips to the shelter for Patrick's tillering tree.

Getting closer my friends.

From: BowAholic
Date: 16-Jul-17

thanks Butch... I should have made one a long time ago. It sounds MoJam has officially begun!

From: Gifford
Date: 17-Jul-17

And it's just one more day...packing going well. Phase I complete, Phase II commences tomorrow. Top off Wednesday at early thirty.

From: BowAholic
Date: 17-Jul-17

I finally got the camper on my truck and started packing... taking a bunch of bows to shoot and work on... a bunch of arrows... stave horse, tillering tree, fletching stuff, string making jig, a few leather grip tools, as well as staves and bow making tools. I did discover way too many bamboo backing slats... so I may have a few extra... :) leaving here dark thirty Wednesday morning.

Anyone heard from Tim Baker and Jim Hamm?

From: badger
Date: 17-Jul-17

Tim and I speak on a regular basis, Tim is not so much into bows at this time. He does on occasion get fired up and start playing with them again but they don't seem to hold his interest like they used to.

From: Gifford
Date: 18-Jul-17

Steve, say Hey to Tim the next time you visit with him. He was surely a help to me and others at the first MoJAM. I still have one his pecan bows. I only wish he had signed it but the design is so unique for the times, folks know it was one of his.

From: BuzAL
Date: 19-Jul-17

re: Tim's autograph- Not much to it, just an unintelligible wiggle.

He was sooo "diplomatic" when commenting on my first bowstring. It was so bad, I'd bet he'd remember it still. :-)

From: Gifford
Date: 25-Jul-17

Hey Guys, the fellas are starting to post their MoJAM pictures on MoJAM thread over on Primitive Archer.

Hope haven't violated the rules by posting information about another archery website.

I almost forgot to remind everyone that MoJam is next week! It's actually Thursday July 19th thru Saturday July 21st, but it seems that we have LOTS of people that will get there this coming Saturday and we are all staying thru the following Sunday a week later...except DVS Dave...who may never leave. :) I heard that the weather forecast is crazy good and in the 80s! It will be awesome...I hope to see a bunch of you there. I will be in a white RAM with a camper on the back... PLEASE stop by and say hello! We will be shooting 3D every morning while it's cool... there are always biscuits and gravy at the clubhouse after that... the most LEGAL fun that you can have!

I don't have green Osage leaves on my arm but, I am short and wide! See you there.

one of the best gatherings ever...lots of pictures have been posted over on the PA site under events. It was really nice to finally see a bunch of new guys/gals/and kids show up. The flight shoot was a blast and there were several bows that actually shot over 200 yards with a 10gpp arrow and 28" draw!
