Has anyone heard of anything special for this year? What are the dates?

I was planning on attending this year but I have to have a bowhunting class certificate so I can hunt in CO this fall and the class falls on the same weekend! UGH! Lance.

It is always the last weekend of July that falls completely in the month of July. Here's a detailed list of activities and vendors. www.archeryfestivals.com/

I would add that there are some area campgrounds with tent sites still available. We were not sure that we could make it this year until just last week. We were able to find accommodations. In fact, we were very pleased with what we found still available.

From: shaftmkr

Darkarcher, sent you pm on some rooms that are available. 9 mile cottages just down the road from Denton still has some vacancies. If anyone is interested call Ralph at 814-435-2394 Shick

Babysaph...not sure if they fixed it.

Shaftmkr...it fills up very quick. If you get there by wed you should be ok After that it gets lil tuffer to find a spot. Many head up Before and stake out a spot to save it. I stay at a buddies camp up the road so no issue for me.

Here's a link for info on E.T.A.R

Dogs allowed on lift only. bvd

From: Longbow58
Date: 21-Jun-17

Not sure the lifts will be running. It's state owned and they won't spend the money to fix them.

From: Witherstick

Gentlemen, I do believe that the original inquiry as to the lift and dogs was made in jest. However, any thoughts on the remote possibility that there could be some rain during a four day stretch in Pennsylvania during July should be considered extremely serious.

JR your starting early see you there

Whether it's cold, or whether it's hot, there's gonna be weather, whether or not.

Ok buddy.

From: Witherstick

Perhaps I should have clarified that my weather reference was likewise in jest!

Monkeyball, we like seeing that old picture. Just right of center is me and my oldest son with my wife, daughter, and younger son in the chair just in front of me.

And I'll still have the orange "HARRY CARRY" tag pinned to my shirt. In case I get lost. Or my ride is trying to avoid me...again. Hope to see bunch-o-yinz there!

From: SJR Bows Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Yes Dogs are allowed must always be on a leach and you must clean up after them. Tracey and will be there again our booth will be in it's regular spot. See you all there.

We need to somehow come up with a save the lift fund!! Put a bucket at the entrance and ask for donations will get that lift up and running in no time. There's got to be a couple a handy leatherwallers here that are mechanically inclined that could fix this bad boy

From: buster v davenport
Date: 22-Jun-17

Nothing is going to be done to the fixing of the lift without the State's (owner) approval. The longer it sets, the more it is going to cost to fix it. From past reports, some of the support posts have shifted and the cost to repair or replace is in the millions? bvd

Don't need the lift now. The rearranged the courses so you can walk them easy now. That thing is dangerous anyway.,

a "traditional " lift would be a catapult at the bottom of the hill

charge $2.00 per sling to the top

those causing a problem could get an extra few cranks and sent over the other side

that would include those that don't like us camping :>)

Folks just need to get over the lift not working. The DCNR has 121 State Parks to oversee, along with over two million acres of State Forest. There are priorities and fixing and maintaining a ski lift, where the ski business dropped to an unprofitable condition, is going to be very low on the list. Income from skiing, which has dropped off significantly at Denton Hill, won't even pay the upkeep on the lift.

They rearranged the targets to make them more accessible by walking, and still have 7 courses over 200 acres of woods and field...mostly woods. I imagine the liability costs of hauling folks up a ski slope in a wagon would likely be cost prohibitive anyway, especially with the litigious society we live in.

Looking forward to ETAR, I will be looking for a shorty recurve and singing & giving the message at the Sunday morning church service. Hope to see you there !!! "Whitie"

The ski lift at Denton... I wonder if it's not just part of a bigger picture... indicative of what's going on with other Pa parks and the DCNR. Things within have been going steadily downhill for many years, imo. Money? Bureaucracy? 'Redirection' of funds? I've spent nearly a half century with Pa parks as my backyard and am quite dissatisfied with their management practices and effects. What I see makes me want to chew someone out.

From what I'm seeing, I think we should probably feel lucky Denton is still a state park at all.

From: Grimesville Assassin
Date: 24-Jun-17

Great point Jeff! For those of us that remember when the lift was running,we got to see all the Cherry Tree's destroyed by the Twister that went through, cant remember the year? Anywho, the state did not allow anyone to remove the logs, and did not sell the veneer off of many huge Cherry tree's that I seen downed by the storm.Hundred of thousands of dollars just went to waste on that hill.Total mismanagement I feel on DCNR's part! Sad!

So they cry money, but turned down the chance to profit from a bad situation! Go figure!

If anyone is on Facebook there is a Save Denton Hill page. They recently came up with a plan to redo the park as a four season attraction. The cost is &16.1 million, and DCNR currently has $12 million. The budget uncertainty has slowed the effort, but the plans are to upgrade and keep it going. They are also planning on constructing hiking and biking trails to connect with Lyman Run Park and Cherry Springs Park. They are optimistic it can be done, but may take time. The best hint we can do is support and attend ETAR to show DCNR it's importance. As far as lifts, it's amusing now that they don't get used everyone misses them, but when they were in use, I heard many complaints about it breaking down and the cost to ride them. There are plenty of lower courses to keep my 59 year old bones to shoot on.

Denton Hill is one of my many motivations to stay fit and active. I have not missed a single ETAR in 25 years. My best friend who I met at this rendezvous is approaching 70 years old. We do the cardiac course three times during the event to avoid the crowds. God willing I'm in his shape when I get to the 70 mark. TLM

Love that cardiac course...but then I love the whole time we are there planning on Thursday through Sunday. Just a rookie yet only been going 6 years and always look forward to this time. Mike and his gang do an outstanding job!
