Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there!
I'm thankful for my father. Pop put a bow in my hand in 1971. And taught me how to use it.
Very proud to carry this good man's name.

Yes, Happy Father's Day to all the dads in our ranks.
Frank, had a similar experience, about five years after yours. Dad got bows for both my mom and myself and we would all shoot together in the yard. I still have that old, all glass Red Bear recurve downstairs. I wouldn't be who I am today without his guidance.

I tell audiences all the time that engaging me in the world of the outdoors early is the best thing my parents ever did. When I was a teenager my experimentation was "will this fly catch that trout", etc instead of experimentations with drugs. The outdoors Gave me something to do and focus on. I'm lucky to have had such great parents. They are Bear hunting as I type these words.
Thanks and happy Father's Day to you all.

I've never seen you shoot but hopefully some day I will. You can't replace time with family. My dad passed away on Feb 17 of this year. I worked on our farm every day beside him. I sure miss not seeing and being able to talk to him.

Ok, this was in maybe 1978.. I was in the backyard practicing with my bow. Note I was shooting instinctively, and have always done so with a recurve, compound or longbow.
Great memories. I treasure the time I have had with my parents shooting archery, bowhunting and going to competitions.

Most men shot instinctively, until the internet archery forum was invented. lol
Nice photos Frank. My Dad had zero interest in the things I love, archery, shooting, fishing, camping, and the outdoors, but I loved him dearly.

My dad was not ever an archer. He was a hunter and he got me started with guns when I was about 5 pouring over his old Gun Digests and Shooters Bibles. That lead me, in later years, to stickbows. He may be gone yet he is still with me. I live in his house and every day I do down to the basement workshop and feel his presence. And work with some of his wood.
