Man I wondered what happened to him and is son Guy. Saw them on Sportsman channel tonight. They are still hunting the corn fields and the the real deal.,

Dan was at the forefront of a simpler time. Video production today has a good deal more pizzazz and commercialism. One video I missed was Dan hunting with a recurve. That I would like to see. After Dan promoted "killa nilla", I saw his videos more as entertainment, rather than bona fide instruction. I heard him personally speak at an event in Massachusetts. I have no interest in hearing Guy do a revival rendition of his father.

Nope...not for me.

From: Barber

Dan and Guy are crooks ! I use to have a lot of there hunting videos and really enjoy watching them. One year for Christmas my wife ordered some dvds and a hat and other stuff from them for me. Only half of it came in with a back order paper for the rest. 2 months later still don't have the stuff and never could contact them. We called and sent emails with no replies back ! Then one day we received a box with some dvds and other junk we did not order and the dvds I already owned ! Did not want that stuff. Sent more emails telling them if they did not have what I ordered just give my money back, sent that junk back with a note. NEVER got my money back and NEVER got the rest of our order. I don't trust them! Last year ran into them at a hunting convention and man I let them have it ! They said nothing!

He's a different kind of guy. I think what you see is what you get. But, in person, his personality is totally different then what you see on TV.

From: Eric Krewson

I never cared for their show, too much foolishness to fill the required time necessary to make a 30 minute segment.

Another thing, they always shouted "Great Shot" after gut shooting a deer and make excuses like "if I didn't take the shot I wouldn't have had any shot", DUH.

From: Barber
Date: 18-Jun-17

The thing that made me mad about them was I grew up watching Dan. I'm 37 years old. One of the earliest memories I have of a hunting video is Down for the Count. So when someone you grew up watching messes you over you look at all of them differently.

I like the scent products, too many other issues though.

From: iowa cedar shooter

always wondered what the "killa nilla" was made out of. i had my suspicions! lol

From: Burly
Date: 18-Jun-17

I grew up watching his videos as well. I didn't like when he edited other guys out of his tapes. His first camera man got the axe, as did his ex son in law Gregg. And I never really cared for his sons attitude. But that being said, I still like his first couple videos, Down for the count and passing threw were a couple of my favorite.

I have met Fred Eichler on a few occasions at some events and he has been the same every time. Super nice guy and seems to be a stand up individual !

From: fdp
Date: 18-Jun-17

EVERY one of these guys has an attitude either good, or bad. I really don't have any opinion about Fitzgerald at all. Been around him a lot. Keep in mind the bottom line they are trying to sell something. They really don't care about the quality of the show for the most part. AS long as the product moves and they have enough social media followers to keep the sponsors happy, that's all that matters. As for the cutting out the "ex son in law" thing, yeah, that's how those things work. It's daddy's show, you mess with the daughter what do you think is going to happen?

Fred Eichler is a really nice guy, just like his wife is. Chuck Adams is nice and genuine a man as you will ever meet. So was Dan Quillian. Some others I never really cared for.

I tried their deer dander once and never had any results from using it other than the bottle it comes in is a cheap POS, that leaks all over the place.

From: 1Longbow

Never cared for Dan,or Guy. .Saw their show once ,that was enough. They remind me of the doof's on Wildgame Nation

From: EF Hutton
Date: 18-Jun-17

I grew up in that mid 80's time. Ben Rogers Lee, Bob Foulkrod, Noel Feather ( before the trouble ) hunting average places Joe Blow could hunt.

I do not watch Any tv hunting now. I do not think a rural folk pastime should be an occupation. Ruin hunting like Branson Missouri was ruined.

From: Burly
Date: 18-Jun-17

I know what happened with the daughter, but why cut Tom out. Did he hit it and quit it also ? I have talked with Dan in the past, seemed like an ok guy. I liked there shows because is was real would bowhunting. Not all about what the deer would score like today's BS.

I hunted Wilderness Lodge in Tenn. and stayed in the same cabin as they had in one of their videos. I am sure you could make a movie out of any of our hunts and good or bad, people will have different opinions. Remember they are selling product. That is a lot different than hunting alone. Just listen to what people say about Howard Hill's Africa hunting movies. The lion and elephant where stacked down. All which maybe true but they were making a movie. Howard still shot other animals that were not displayed on film. He shot a charging Lioness in the head and shot 3 elephants and also cape buffalo. He was no fake, but his dated films may have been. Kind of giving the people what they want. Remember in days gone by many of our old hunters took shots at animals that are not accepted in today times. They didn't have people all around them with cell phones taking pictures of every thing they did. We have to care more now not to mess up our sport. A wounded animal running threw someone's yard is not good for our sport. If you were out in the back country years ago the animal would have time to run and die and would be miles from critical eyes. Times are changing and we have to adapt our ways and the shots we take. Remember no one is perfect.

It's humorous how people suppose generalities on individuals because of one experience. For those of you that are haters that's fine but why go out of your way to post on a thread that is a persons positive feelings about these folks. In the day and age of social media everybody seems to have their opinion and want to impose it on someone else-- for me I like the Fitzgeralds, they are positive and in today's pagan narcissistic society they are good spiritual examples even if they're not perfect ! I'm pretty sure all of us have messed up at sometime in life and if this were a thread about us somebody could post something negative, until then he without sin cast the first stone.

Alan Altizer made some of the best videos I ever watched. I used to watch them over and over. I met Alan once (briefly) at a bow shop (Millers Archery) in east TN once. Seemed a very genuine, down-to-earth guy, one that I wouldn't mind spending time in a camp with.

From: EF Hutton

I do not think the " Against " opinions are all necessarily aimed at the wanna be a celebrity subject (s).

I think alot of good ole country folk want their pastime back, and want the cameras out of the woods. I would think the percentage is almost 50% now of peeps who really ought not be in the woods.

Dan and Guy has been on TV for a while now. A good bunch of guys that do know how to kill animals...

Funny how we are so easy to judge someone and give high praises to others that do the same thing. Fred Eichler has taken more bad shots on camera just hoping to kill something on camera. But we seem to forget those... and he gets just as excited as others, but because he shoots a stick we over look that, right? Yes, I know Fred, have known him before he tried making videos. His ex wife was a friend on my ex wife's, so I do know him before he became what Michelle made him...

EF Hutton has it right!! Back when Dan hunted with Noel and they started making videos(early 80's) they were pretty darn good. Noel got in a bit of trouble with the illegal tagging of some deer but before he went for the all mighty dollar he was a great whitetail hunter. Dan was not too bad himself and he could shoot the lights out with a barebow. I watched him head shooting mice and rats in a barn one night and he rarely missed. The problem they became too commercial and again went for the money! By the way it is called Vanilla Killa and is still available. Once Dan started on his own I never cared for him and when his son came along it was just terrible!! Shawn

From: 4nolz@work

Wasn't the 'illegal tagging" inside Yellowstone Park or something like that?

I'm wrong on those details that was some Don Lewis guy I'm not sure if they were cohorts or not.My point is there is pressure to create TV/video that leads to bad choices.

From: EF Hutton

Yall should know, if you goggle " Legends of bowhunting " you can watch some of that ole footage. The You Tube clips are narrated by a young guy who gives respect to the old ways with on screen written comments.

It's nice to watch.

I liked Dan's early videos but just watched him and guy on a show it was kinda weird to be honest looks like they're trying to hold on to the spotlight a little too long wish them well though

I wouldn't give you $0.05 for ole Dan. Great self-promoter who was great at producing bowhunting videos of very poor taste. "Mr. Pass Through!"

I have known Noel since he was 20 years old. Great likable guy, good to talk to, great shot with a bow. Belonged to the same local club. He "broke" the law, big time & more than once.. Sad, but true. He's in the center of this pic. (I think 1958) Was on our annual club hunt to Northern Ws we did for many years. From 1964 thru 82 I owned shop/lanes & set up the meeting with him & Pete Shepley. He got a staff hunter position with PSE from that meeting.

From: Scooby-doo
Date: 19-Jun-17

I met Noel a couple times. Like I said he was a very good deer hunter and good hunter all around. He was trying to make a name for himself and did a some stupid things which got him in big trouble. It is a shame as when I was a young kid in the early 80's I looked up too him. Dan on the other hand was too over the top for me and I don't believe he was the squeaky clean hunter either!! Shawn

I to looked up to him when I met him a couple times at the great Eastern sports show out of Harrisburg, Pa.

He who is without sin cast the first stone. They all walked away. Whats that tell you. You think its just a story. Its not!

The thing I remember the most is Noel always had beautiful women with him at the shows.

I leave those that do videos and tv shows alone. Fred Bear did it for two reasons he wanted to do those hunts and filming them made them tax deductible expenses AND he wanted to promote bowhunting. He promoted his company too and a few other companies that help fund the hunts; but it wasn't the majority of the video. The last "bowhunting video" I watched was one hour and some few minutes long. Product placement and downright product endorsements took up 50 minutes. 15 minutes of actual hunting.

From: DanaC
Date: 21-Jun-17

Even magazine articles are more and more about product placement/names. (With notable exceptions.)

Look, writers/editors/producers, if I really cared I'd *ask* what kind of bow/arrow/head/release/string/camo that is.

And I watch 'The Super Bowl', not the bleeping 'McDonald's Big Mac Super Bowl.'

Sheesh....

I havn't like videos of hunting shows ever since I saw Howard Hill shoot that lion that was chained up. kind of turned me off to em

From: fdp

o them. There have been about 3 or 4 people in the archery world that " "looked up to" Earl Hoyt would be one. Lots of them I looked at eye to eye, but they never impressed me enough to look "up" to them.

Agree with the above who posted about Alan Altizer I've never met him but he seems like a great guy and was my video mentor back in the day. I grew up watching these guys and could never take much of Dan he was a good shot for sure but way over the top for me, his son is way worse in that category in my opinion

From: mgerard Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I was lucky enough to draw an elk tag in Michigan in 1994. My guide told me of a hunter before me that Dan Fitzgerald brought to him so he could video the hunt. Weather prevented them from tagging a bull the first day and Fitzgerald left the guy there with no ride home! He also reportedly took orders and down payments for taxidermy work and never returned the hides or did the work.

Sure would be nice to get some of those Altizer vids in modern format. Buy em in a minute.

From: Red Beastmaster

I used to rent the old hunting videos over and over. Dan Fitzgerald and Bob Foulkrod were my favorites. When Guy came along I remember telling my wife "that kids gonna grow up to be a meathead". Hmmmm.

I watched a video of Fitzgerald where he was teaching youngsters to take neck and rump shots on deer. Not good examples.
