I collect and carve wooden decoys. This bird is a lathed turned factory one. Signature?? Really means little. Could be fake, could be his, we will never know.

Very cool.

Signature looks "off"

That is not the signature of world famous archer Fred Bear

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I had him sign my 2003 Silverado the same month I bought it. How's it going Shane?

When will the madness end? The marks circled in red look like the first attempt at the signature. I don't know why Fred couldn't get it right the first time. He was probably excited and giddy at the prospect of autographing a decoy. Why is this more exciting than a bow signed by a famous decoy manufacturer? If it had the image of the Virgin Mary on it, you would really have something... Better check it carefully. - John

Maybe that's the duck's name.

Pawn stars can get it authenticated.lol

From: Fisher Cat

tradmt, more likely its name is "Harry Drake." LOL - John

This is a Victor decoy circa 1910-1930's where the circle is definitely not an attempted signature. Next question would be why a faded signature would have been attempted on this kind of item, and showing age would also make you wonder why back then; when value to his signature did not start until after 1988? I love the self proclaimed experts. Have owned many of Fred's signatures, and there were many variations through the years. Even mine has changed through 41 years of life thus far. Fred did duck hunt and had decoys in early years. That is a fact.

Now, who is going to post the stupid iPhone cover that comes up in every signature post?

From: Fisher Cat
Date: 19-May-17

Hunt OH, on a more serious note, if I were to mark a decoy I owned, I would write "property of ______,"along with my address and phone number. I wouldn't just autograph it. - John

Just an old decoy

From: Scooby-doo
Date: 19-May-17

The decoy may be worth something, the signature means nothing!! It also does not look like Fred's signature. I have a baseball that I personally watched a bunch of Albany Colonie Yankees sign. Now for those who don't know Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Moe, Andy Pettite all played for them. The ball has 17 signatures including those Yankee greats. To me it is priceless but I went to find out what it is worth and guess what? Not much as it is not authenticated. Shawn

They sure look alike to me they are the real deal .my son in law give that book to me for Christmas one year . he bought the book at a yard sale in Pittsburg Pa . He was not sure on the signature so i had Neil Byce check it .

From: Woodduck

Tough sell...

From: Ambleman

"We" don't have anything. "Someone" has a decoy with writing on it. "They" can put it their shrine or showcase or whatever. It's not worth worrying about it unless "you" bought it. Wait, what?

Call it stupid if you want, but at least it's actually Fred's signature.

So here it is, and yes it's a very faded Stickbowman below. Jay St. Charles was the first one to notice this. Still trying to find out more information on this decoy. Both Jay and Joe, have stated that it looked like an item that Fred would have owned, and both have seen the signature.

From: Hunt OH
Date: 24-May-17

Talking with Carol Mauch. Her and Dick have 2 decoys Fred gave them . One was a wedding present. This one happens to be older. It's fund to dig up information.

From: 4nolz@work

That's the same signature or did you enhance it? Much more legible looks real.

Fred signed a lot of bows n stuff with the stickman shooting a bow under his name, that's nothing strange.

Heres one to compare. As a lot of you know I sat and spent hours talking to Fred at his signings back when he wasn't such a big deal to most archers(compounds heyday in the late 70's and early 80's). Most of the bows he signed back then were compounds, along with who knows how many other things. People who still thought he was special in a way use to bring him baseballs basketballs books and sometimes the shirt they wore if they had nothing else to sign so a duck whether his or not isn't the least bit unusual.
