Question for you Bear recurve experts. I have a chance to acquire a 64-65 Bear Grizzly in good condition. I have not seen the bow. Pics look good. Can someone give me an estimated value on this bow?

Thanks.

They DO carry a premium over other Griz specimens of maybe 10-15%, but draw weight and "good condition" are too vague to get more specific.

On average I'd say most Griz versions under $200, 64-65 over $200.

Anywhere from $100 to $300 depending on the condition. Price is never something you can advise on precisely. I would think a good condition bow of that year should bring around $200.00. You can buy Kodiaks of that vintage for near that too if you watch the auctions. What is it worth to you? That's the real question. If you want to buy it and sell it, then you don't want to pay top dollar. If you want it to keep and use it, then price is what you want to pay. They don't make those anymore in that mid 60's design.

A near mint, zebrawood 67 Grizzly, RH, sold recently for $202.49 on Ebay. It was in great shape. That design was made from 64 through 67.

I would keep it. Would not plan on selling it. The seller wants $350.00 and that comes with a Great Northern strap on quiver, some older fiberglass arrows, some bear Razorheads and assorted other trad items. He says the previous owner filled in the holes and refinished.

The serial number on the bow is "30CZ3". Does anyone have anything to quick reference that number to actually determine the year model?

I tend to think the price is a bit high but again, that is why I am asking.

It's a 1964. The other three years..65, 66 and 67 the year was the first number in the serial number. If you are getting everything but the kitchen sink, that may not be bad. Offer him $275.00 and see what he says. If he counters with $300.00 then buy it. 8^). I love those models from 64 through 67. The holes detract from value although many had them for sure back then.

Much appreciated gentlemen!

That seems high for one with filled holes in it.

Yep, price is high. That price is only if you really want that particular model for some reason.

There are a lot of zebra grizzlys out there with no cracks or filled holes,be patient and you will find one.

I bought a left handed early 70's Grizzly, 45#,clean, this morning for $75.00. They are out there and I am afraid what he is asking is also a bit out there.

To me the grizzlies are the blue collar hunter hunting bow and were priced accordingly.

"""The seller wants $350.00 and that comes with a Great Northern strap on quiver, some older fiberglass arrows, some bear Razorheads and assorted other trad items."""

He's talking about more than the bow here folks and it's hard to tell what "assorted other trad items" is. If he can talk the price down it may well be a good buy.

Sorry, but a refinished one with holes turns a lot of us off. Nice clean ones are out there for $200 or less if you are patient. I know...since I've bought a couple on this classifieds that were in excellent shape.

But George's comment above is valid. The quiver, arrows, razorheads, and "other trad items" may turn out to be beneficial for you, so get the details and ...

I would say maybe $125.00 at the most. The OP would have to list all the older used items to see if the whole package would be worth the $350.00 price. As mentioned it is a repaired/refinished bow.

Yeah. With repaired holes and refinished brought it down to the $150 range or less for me.

I have a nice lefty 65 and it was nowhere near $300. Nowhere.

Holes, refinished a $150 shipped tops and that is if the holes and the refinish was done perfectly. There are some real nice ones from 64-65 for around 200-225 and they are in VG original condition! Shawn

if you sent a bow to a professional refinisher like bowdoc, Don Doan or droptine and they filled holes and did a beautiful job would it only be worth a $150??

From: Stephengiles
Date: 15-May-17

I'd offer 275 for it all. Anymore than that if I was wanting one for personal use I'd buy the practically new 50# one on the second page of the classifieds. Unless you have an aversion to the newer ones,or50# isn't a weight you like. The arrows and quiver wouldn't be worth that much to me personally unless he had a good number of them.

I spoke to the prospective seller a short while ago. He knows I am not willing to pay anywhere near the $350.00 mark. I guess he had to start somewhere and that is as good a place as any. I could have said yes and jumped all over it. I meet with him later today and will shoot it. I am interested to see what other items he has as well.

Bought it for $200.00 Shoots very well especially for an exceptionally day and terribly overspined arrows.

From: nowheels
Date: 19-May-17

Congrats, you will like it once you get correctly spined arrows. I have a lefty '64 and it shoots as good as any high end custom out there in my opinion.

I paid a little less than 200 for mine a few years ago. Mine is in excellent condition with no holes, so it sounds like you got a pretty good deal given all the extras that came with it. Now go kill something with it!

From: kodiakkid

Refinished and filled holes turns me off. I'd say maybe 125.00

From: Bobby B
Date: 19-May-17

$200 I would say is a fair price all around.

Enjoy!
