The Jerry Pierce Memorial shoot is this coming weekend, May 20-21, at Enid Lake in North Ms. We set the range today and we've made some changes to it that I think everyone will like. This is always a great shoot and the Persimmon Hill campground has great facilities so plan on staying the weekend. For more info, message me here or call or text me at 601-566-4255

How about pics and stories about Jerry? Met him at GORH, where he was a star. Plus, grey painted super recurve.

Great shoot at a great campground (Persimmon Hill). It a Corps of Engineers campground so us seniors can camp for $10 a night with a senior pass.

The campground is opulent, it even has air conditioned bath houses.

I am in the background watching Abe and Michelle work.

This is my favorite shot picture from the shoot. My friend Danny shot at this target and hit the tree with his first shot. He wanted to try again just for practice and got the tree again. One more try and he hit the tree for the third time a quit.

looks like you will have a good crowd. I just checked camping sites and the whole campground is booked.

If you get there early on Friday, before 10:00am, there will be plenty of first come sites that will be open, they call them "walk up sites", they cannot be reserved. The traffic of campers starts to pick up after 10:00 and most if not all of the sites are filled by mid afternoon.

I did this last year and had my pick of at least 1 dozen walk up sites.

From: Eric Krewson
Date: 17-May-17

I just started through the list of walk-up and found 1,3 and 5 were open on Friday as of today. I didn't look further but suspect most of the others will be as well.

What I did last time was run through the sites just before I left the house (3 hour drive) to see how many were still open, all of them were. Site 3 was the first site I drove by that was open so I backed my camper in and proceeded down the road to the self serve box and paid for it.

thanks, Eric. early Friday wouldn't be possible for me.

The only Jerry bow I've ever seen was painted grey and held in Jerry's hands (at GORH).

I think I know why he painted it grey, but maybe somebody who was close to him will tell the true story.

His son is always there if you want to ask about him. He may even have a bow to look at.

If the Persimmon Hill campground is full, you can always stay at George P Cossar state park. It's also on the lake and only about a 15min drive from the shoot. They are showing 23 campsites available right now and may even have cabins available. https://mississippistateparks.reserveamerica.com/campsiteSearch.do

Jk, Jerry's son Lenny will be at the shoot and can probably answer any questions you may have. He, and his wife will be around the pavilion all weekend.

I won't be there.. the story I heard at GORH is that he wanted his bows to be appreciated as shooters more than as lookers...therefore he painted at least the one he brought with him with low quality grey paint.

Well, I think the weather forecast really hurt attendance but the shoot went really well and everyone I talked to enjoyed it. The weather actually turned out good, rain all around us but very little on us. Thanks to everyone who came out and shot with us. Scores are posted on our Facebook page. Is this still an annual event? I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend a little time around Jerry when I first got started bowhunting. I looked up to Jerry as well as others that were in a local bowhunting organization that I was proud to be a member of. However I was young at the time and didn't realize how truly special Jerry was. Unfortunately it was not until after his passing when I learned more about what he did for so many organizations. I really hope this event is still going strong. If so, I'd like to learn more about it and find out how I can help. I owe it to Jerry and all those like him that gave all they did so our kids and their kids can enjoy and continue to pass down our American heritage.

It is still going on. The very first post is the best person to call, Kevin Brown. He’s a board member. It’s a great shoot, we have a lot of fun.

All the shoots were canceled this year because of Covid, hopefully they will resume next year.
