For the first time in 24 years I went turkey hunting. Saw 2 on my way to hunt and 2 more while there.I closed the distance from about 600 yards to about 150 then they took off.Didnt see any sign where I was in hoosier national forest.I may try to find someone to take me out and call for me next year.I just dont have any private land. I guess no ones hearing them and most think our season is to late as in matings is over? Man I would love to get a gobbler.I walked my old legs off.Enjoyed being out.Anyone in In. doing any good?

I'm confused. How did you see turkeys on your way? If that is the case it is way easier hunting them while calling them before they fly down at o' dark thirty.

Pa. opened Sat and I had one blow down on me early light as it was getting light all I herd was the wing beats when he left the tree way above me. Wasn't feeling up to the bow and running short on set up time so had bang pole on me and that's all she wrote. Bang he went back to sleep and I went home for needed ZZZZ's.LOL

Pretty tired getting up early. 3 am rises early tomorrow again. Full green up birds been breeding for 2 months do to warm out. Still going nuts though.

When your not hearing them they are there just don't have to gobble when with hens as well they know where they are. I really thought this was a big bird and it was not he was bet to death though they must have been really rumbling lately.

The more your out Crow the more we learn. Don't walk all over they might be seeing you. If one putts on you def. to close.

Going out in the morning for the opener. Supposed to be 78 tomorrow so they will be active early. Bugs will too. Short on set up time too but Im taking the bow anyway. Sharpened some Zwickey Deltas and screwed them on the 2216s BOXCALL sent me, and shooting them outta the 62# Brack. Dam near midnight and finally get everything ready, going out at 4:30. Gonna be beat. The fun stuff has to take a back seat to the home improvement list again so hear I am up late.

Best of luck crow you also could try from about 900 to 12 noon. Even better is if you state all allows hunting all day, then try late afternoons.

The evidence was there, but the birds were not (in my usual haunt). Kicked the ones out behind the house though. Heard gobbles and yelps, and then them skulking through the woods on my way over to the other spot.

Are you guys seeing/hearing them in the woods or fields?

Hunted with my son Klent in April. Killed a jake on evening hunt over near Ada, Ok. Klent did all the calling, first gobbler I've shot that I didn't call up myself. He had already got his gobbler. A time to remember. Good luck.

RC I'm confused-you shot him out of the tree or out of the air when he flushed?

Sounds like he flew down in front of RC, landed, and he made a headshot with peashooter.

If turkey hunters were all completely honest we'd admit luck is better than world class caliber calling any day. I have lots of luck...but it's mostly bad!

On the ground as soon as he hit from when he left tree and all I herd was his wing beats and there he was and bang over quick. He herd me enough to fly down on me like that or maybe he wanted to be there? Next week a couple days to hunt with bow trying to figure out where they want to be right now and then set up and wait him out. Today was with gun again wanted to shoot a couple birds with gun again this year its been a while since I last been gunning. Just been shooting them with bow past couple years. Bow was in truck and had I been able to get a different set up rather than I had to move around quickly would have sat it out with bow and blind and decoys.

Had to call them off private onto my permission spot and not right set up to move on them so gun was more practical to punch a tag.

Birds had lock jaw this morning with fog and then big wind was hard. This bird was hot this morning but some property owners screwed me up he herd bird gobbling on road and saw me go in and tried to tell me I was on his land when I wasn't. The bird was and was coming to me till the guy drove to me and sat in road between me and this bird.

A lot of guys just get in between where birds roosting and where he wants to be and oh I called him in. Birds have been hard past 2 weeks and its so greened up its like the summer time it looks like. Its just unreal.

Saturdays bird never made a sound this morning. I knew one was there he's been talking previously but he didn't that morning.
