I picked up two first time for me bows today in marlin tx of all places. One, a H6 '53 static kodiak. A few scratches but probably a 9+ on a scale of 10. Original decals, no stress,

The other is a super kodiak. I've always wanted one but never pulled the trigger. This one I have a few questions about.

It's probably 8.5 outta 10. The question is the sight is missing the brush rest and has no pins. I'm assuming pins are going to be hard to find. Is the brush rest? If so, what is the alternative? I hate to stick a leather plate over the sight window. Perhaps a flipper II? I've never shot a sight. What would be an alternative to bear pins?

Try trolling the big auction site, those items show up once in awhile. You might be able to modify a brush rest that is currently sold. I think 3Rivers has them. They are actually put on from the back of the plate. When the plate is screwed down it holds it in place. That SK was not common if I am not mistaken so you scored real good.

Thanks tom, when you mentioned that there weren't many a trip to the auction site showed none with a sight. Maybe it would be worth getting original parts.
That pre patent kodiak ain't no slouch either.

I love the static Bears. What draw weight is that 1953 K-6?

Just stick a Hoyt Super Rest on it. Most folks back then used aftermarket rests on those bows for hunting.
The Bear Premier Sight was used on some of the bows back then, and was usually a special order on hunting models. Lots of folks used sights, but by the 70's when that bow came out, the side mount sights and quivers were very popular, and most folks liked that combination. I know...it horrifies the neotrads, but what can I say.

Theirs a person on the big sight that's been selling quite a few brush rest for the Bear side plates. He must or ran into a pile of them.

Thanks,
George, the idea of the flipper was it would go around the existing sight plate but as I look at it it probably won't.
Norm, I saw the rest. I just have to decide if it's worth that price.

RMS Gear in Denver sells the brush reat as well.
The sight pins... I know I saw some for sale in the trad classifieds @ AT. If not look at TT. I know it would be found under accessories in either case.

.Some of the sights from that bow were little circle type sights , others had a single pin on a jam nut that fit in the groove in the side plate. Rest were a brush rest and sometimes a magnetic flipper that did not last long for me.A Hoyt pro rest rest was a common substitute . Drilling the riser for a side mounted sight was also common as the pin in the grooved side plate did not allow a lot of adjustment in and out. Great find and in great shape. I may have some of those sliding pin sights in one or the other old parts box, will look tomorrow, you are welcome to them if I can still find them.
