Tons of info on this site.
Go to the "search" bar and type in "refinish" and you will get more info than you might expect.

Are you going to completely remove the old finish, or just sand and recoat it?

Here are a couple ideas you will find in your search:
Easiest and best way I've found is to sand it with 100, 120 or 150 grit and then sand again with 220. Put several light coats of Deft spray lacquer on it. Wet sand with 600 or 800 grit and put a couple of coats of Deft satin lacquer on it. Will be beautiful. Phil Magistro or Just refinished my old Wing Thunderbird and used Minwax Wipe -On Poly in clear satin finish and it came out beautiful. Used 180 grain sandpaper and 0000 steel wool prior to finishing. I got the tip to use the Minwax from this site and it was great advice. The finish was not shiny. Butch

Laquer is brittle and non flexible. That's one of the reason auto makers stopped using it, that and the fact it fades and chalks fast in the sun. I use a spray poly which is very flexible and wet sand with 400 between coats. I refinished one bow 2 weeks after it was built. It had laquer and scratched deeply very easy. I just scuffed it lightly and recoated it with polyurethane. Its been about 6 years n it doesn't have a deep scratch on it.

and if your going to use spray poly might as well use spray spar urethane to give more water resistance. it's flexed through many thousands of casts on my bamboo rods.

Yep any type urethane. Just test spray first as some are thinner and will spray more smoothly than others.

I wouldn't use laquer on a bending surface I'd use a urethane as stated above, spar or poly.Spar tends to yellow so I use poly.
