My vote is also Jennings. Their first 4 wheel model was just a "hunting model" although that was a wood riser and was made before 1969. Bob Jensen was used in advertising of it. I think the metal riser came out around 1972ish.

It was a question about an old compound that some of us got a little involved in.

It REALLY had -0- to do with recurves and longbows, it was just interesting.

Well it is apart of archery history and how it has evolved. Some of us started on a compound bow. I just got this compound given to me along with four recurves. Two 50 pound green fiberglass bows. and two beautiful Bears a Grizzly and a Kodiak special. from the late fifties. I never saw the compound. Had no idea what it was. I started bow hunting in 1985. Thank you everyone for your input always appreciated.

Two of the recurves I got along with the compound bow.

Thanks for sharing the old bow, and like I said in the original thread, it is very cool and would make a great Warf, Franken, or whatever-put limbs on an old riser.

That metal riser is a Jennings S-Handle. They had a straighter model metal riser as well, right after the W (wooden). Jennings actually even made all of Allen's split limb bows, and was the one who convinced Hollis Allen that the split limb would provide more energy. Allen only made the rod limb models.

Bob Jensen was used in the Jennings ads in the 80'2. He actually shot the T-Star and a Shooting Star with the Ace in the Hole quiver loaded with autumn orange xx75's and Savora heads and Black Diamond. Midge Dandridge also appeared in the ads for Jennings.

Thanks George. Do you have a picture of the rod limb model by Allen you could post?

The old guy that gave me these bows knew that I hunted. And he said to me would you like an old compound bow. And I figured what the heck. I said yes. Then he said. I have four old recurves you can have to. I had know idea what they were cause he didn't say. When I saw them and saw that two of them were Bears. I was very pleased. So If someone ever asks you if you want a compound I would take it. ;-)

You got lucky and it is great that guys are repurposing the old compound risers. I hope you do something nice for the old boy!

Thanks George, that model name just would not come into my mind. I shot with a guy that had one. He was darn good. That store also sold the rangefinder site like mounted on the old Bear in the above pic. Our quivers were 8arrow Sagittarius quivers. Pretty much all the bows that came from "Archers Haven" in Glendale, Az. we're equipped alike.

I had a Jennings S handle about 1975. And that's what it is !!!
